If you want the violin to whisper, then use a metal mute.

Fantastic! I don't have to avoid practice now i can play without disturbing others in my unit. Also for those days you feel extra self-conscious as a beginner. Even though the sound is muted and resistricted you can still hear the quailty enough to make corrections. Thank you!

It certainly dulls the sound to a minimalist sound. I worry it may damage the bridge cos it's heavy and metal might leave an imprint on the soft bridge. Otherwise it's a bit of a gimmick I was curious to try.

This mute is perfect to ensure I do not disrupt the neighbours well I'm practising.

This mute has been exactly what I was after! I looked up various mute styles, but decided I was just after maximum sound dampening, and this delivers. It brings the volume down a lot and the sound carries less through walls. As a self-conscious adult beginner, with the mute I practice a lot more confidently and consistently (rather than trying to play quietly at all times without a mute, terrible for technique, or putting it off till everyone's out of the house!). Obviously it changes the sound a bit, but a small trade off. It's kind of pleasantly heavy as an object in the palm, but as others have said it's not at all noticeable when playing. I just place it on the bridge and gently tap it on a couple of times, and have not noticed any marks or issues with it, and it stays in place just fine.

If you want to practice without bothering those around you, this mute is for you. My phone’s “Decibel X” app was recording at least a 20 decibel drop but it sounded like more! It was like putting on a pair of industrial ear muffs! It was like magic! I will say I was surprised at the weight of it, about 75g, but it isn’t noticeable once it’s on the bridge. I would be comfortable practicing in the living room while my husband sleeps in the room next door. I also purchased the rubber mute, which was much more subtle.

I first bought a rubber mute but this one mutes the sound a lot more. I'm sure that my neighbours are very grateful.
