Koeppen, Cello Method Lesson Book 1 (Schott) Reviews

5 Rating 1 Reviews
The Koeppen cello method book is directed at adult learners, which is really refreshing to see. It is easy to get started with and it is comprehensive. The pieces are relevant to adult students and one of my students remarked that it felt nice to play music that was not directed at children. Every piece has been composed as a duet, so that a teacher can play with the students. My adult learners have really enjoyed this process and benefited from the duets, enjoying the melody they were creating, supported by harmony. The book is designed to cover all the essentials, so as a teacher you can progress through the basics in any order. I usually jump through different concepts back and forth to suit my teaching style. The way the concepts are organised make it easy to do so. I have found that this book covers everything that I need to get a student started. The first book covers in detail correct positioning of the hands and basic music theory, including learning the note names. The first book is completely in first position, so if you have student who has already learnt the basics of approximately a preliminary level I would recommend starting with book two that introduces extensions and shifting up to fourth position. I would recommend the Koeppen cello method to any adult learner as a comprehensive introduction to the cello and for further all-round development.
