Amazing little device, honestlyI wasn’t expecting g much but it far exceeded my expectations. Only things I would change would be the dial to turn it on and select is a tad flimsy compared to the rest of the device, and there really should be some type of low profile lens caps. But have to say, seeing top tier night vision I didn’t think there would be much to this…I was wrong. It isn’t the same, but has a lot of advantages…like not having to worry about burning the intensifier tube when looking at lighted areas. And being able to use ot as a camera and video recorder is an added bonus.

I bought this for my job as a private investigator. Most of the jobs consist of early morning and late night surveillance. We use camcorders to get video but do not work at low light or night. I bought this to help out with those issues. First, the night vision works great for the areas we work in (neighborhoods, urban areas, parking lots, edge of a farm). It does have issues with to much light, works best with moon light than street or house lights. The artificial light burns up the image to much. Second, the color vs green or grey gives us the ability to describe or verify vehicles color, house, and what color subject’s clothes are for descriptions. Cons: (this is a great start to a great product but needs improvements, honest suggestions) my back ground in special operations, as a firearms instructor, and now private investigator, I have a lot of experience with night optics and thermal equipment. The Aurora is trying to be a Jack of all trades and in doing so, falls short in areas that are needed in my professional opinion. Starting off this is a camcorder and not NVG’s meaning that quality of picture needs to be a lot higher than needed for NVG’s to just see and walk around. The Aurora falls short with quality of recorded video from just using it to view. Picture looks great till you hit record and then picture quality falls off. Again, this is not a NVG, but the parallax knob is only for focusing inch’s from face to about 10 feet away. Then it just goes to affinity. If I can’t focus on a license plate at 15 ft then this product is useless for me. To continue on this, there is no zoom. I will say this again, there is no zoom. It has a magnifyer but all it does is increase the size of pixel to enlarge it. It is just like taking a photo on Microsoft paint and stretching the image to make it bigger. That is not a zoom. That means I pretty much have to be 15 ft from anything to actually focus a nice picture. If this is to be used for a spotting scope for hunting or a camcorder, it needs a zoom/ optical zoom just like a regular camcorder. This product needs to be made for a specific application. If you want a night vision optic for a rifle… make one for that. If you want to make a new form of NVG’s then make one for that. If you want a camcorder then make one for that. Trying to make a product that fits every market is a huge let down on performance for this product. The quality of material is nice but the unprotected glass on the end doesn’t make any sense to me if this product is for hunters and military. The glass is easily scratched and smuggled. Finally, being nit picky here, the green light that indicates the optic is on doesn’t make sense for military applications. I have to put tape over it or have to be careful to cover it as I am filming people. If a light is needed it needed to be put on the back next to eye lens and needs to be red not green/yellow. I know this is a new product and from knowing that I do think this product is a great start to a new way we use and see night vision (in color) for the future. Thank you for producing a well built product that the public can afford and use.

Works well honestly much better than I expected and with an IR illuminator it’s incredible. Not a noticeable lag when helmet mounted but takes some getting used to

I cleans up the noise" from the previous model. The weather was a tornado warning. Pitch black out. I was surprised it still performed well out to several hundred yards. I had a guy that had only used thermal for many years. I could tell the look on his face he was impressed and surprised at what he could see. The only thing I do not like is is has a usb-micro connection. USB-C is better. Bit then for $7 on Amazon I got an adapter for "C" to "MICRO" so no big deal.

SiOnyx Pro is a great little package. Will be using this camera for hiking and outdoors surveillance at night. After the first few trials in my backyard I am beyond pleased with its performance. Digital zoom is a little up for discussion, I would rather see a true mechanical zoom on this even if it was 2x or up to 4X max then use digital zoom for up to 8X. I know it would add weight and size but I think it would keep the resolution a little higher. The optional IR illumination kit is no joke and really fills in the room when used indoors, spot focus is read well on the SiOnyx outdoors as a spot light. App interface is quick and lightweight when you need to transfer photos fast and share what you are seeing. In less than 2 minutes I can snap turn on my SiOnyx, link to phone and send to a friend what I am seeing. A+. I'd say for most situations I need this unit, ill be very happy. Only would've liked the ability to pull manual zoom for spotting in distance 200yrds. digital zoom seems to be a crop of full frame exposure so you cant get detail in the zoomed area if a branch reflects the IR back to the camera in the full frame without zoom. Make spotlight on IR and try to do several experiments and still tricky to get good focus at 200yrds on digital zoom. When you turn of digital zoom you can see better with exposure but my eyes struggle to identify objects at 200yrds since you are looking at less pixels on the screen. Detection is great (good screen refresh rate) but classification is tricky (pixel density).
