Great quality and design, very functional and easy to use. The Aurora Pro will become a valuable tool in our security portfolio.

Exellent night-vision performance, particularly in color. The only thing I believe Sionyx should offer is a lens cap for the front lens and possibly a filter holder adapter. There are third-party slip-on clear "lens protectors" available.

I had purchased the original Aurora almost a year and half ago back in April 2019 - It left me with a mixed impression, trending more to the positive side. When I saw that a 'pro' version of the Aurora was available, I decided to give it a go. My expectation was to have a digital device capable of night vision performance that would compare to analog Gen 2 or Gen 2+ intensifier tubes. Of course, I did not expect to match a Gen 3 tube that costs over 3,000US$ while the Aurora Pro is just below 1,000$. From a quality perspective, the device is really well built: albeit plastic made, it really feels premium. The diopter button is a bit flimsy but not objectionable. The lens focus barrel, is made of poly-carbonate plastic and feels a bit of 'toy', not rugged like the rest of the body, but again not a big objection here. There is a little + or - 0.3mm play between the lens barrel and the scene selector ring, that is visible if you look close enough. Of course, this does not affect the image performance, but for a relatively high price tag, I expected more of premium material for the lens barrel and rotating parts. Overall, for the build quality, the device deserves a 7.5 - 8 over 10. Performance wise in the dark, this device compares more to a Gen 1+ than a Gen 2. It surpasses a Gen 1+ but falls short from a Gen 2 when you have a moon-less night, with almost no stray light in the scene. I took a Gen 2 night vision made by Luna Optics and my Aurora Pro. I went into a big hangar room and looked the door. The only source of light were the tiny green signal LED on the internet router. The Gen 2, could see the contours of most objects in the room, while the Aurora Pro viewfinder would only show static noise, even using the maximum aperture (full night scene). I did another test outdoor alongside the walking path, I use for my evening walks: I noticed that from the moment, you can't distinguish any longer the boundaries of the road, close objects with an 'adjusted' naked eye, you won't be able to do so with the Aurora... Someone might ask me then "where does the Aurora helps?" : if you are outdoor and you can barely see the boundaries of the scene's objects such as road, trees, and so on, the Aurora will be able to brighten the images and show the mid-range tones details. But if light is low enough that even with a naked eye, you are struggling to see the closest boundary to you, then the Aurora will be no help. Only a Gen 2+ did manage to give me a viewable image in that case. I got also the question: how does it compare to the 'classic' Aurora? It is about 1 stop brighter (almost 2x), but actually the difference is subtle, not really noticeable. As conclusion, if it was not the pricey tag for its performance that compares more to Gen 1+ rather than Gen 2, I would have given the product 4 or 5 stars. Personally, it is for me a nice companion for my evening walks as I often have a sky for residual moonlight, but if you expect to displace with it a Gen 2 or Gen 3 you will be disappointed. Surely, this device is the future in a way as there are no analog tubes that have limited lifespan or can get damaged with sudden light exposures. I believe in 2-3 years time, there will surely be an Aurora version capable of matching Gen 2 / Gen 2+ For now, the most common use case for my Aurora Pro is an assistant during my evening walks when there is some stray light from the sky. Hope I did help Georges
