I already own an Eastman AR810 archtop so selling this to me was probably preaching to the converted! However, my assessment is this is an excellent ES335 type semi. It is slightly smaller than an ES335 (but much larger than an ES339). The quality of the finish and materials is far superior to more basic Gibsons, and on a par with the Yamaha SA series. The T486 is beautifully constructed with a lovely ebony fretboard and headstock facing, real Pearl inlays, book-matched maple layer on the maple birch maple ply top and back, nitrocellulose lacquer, and a more arched top and back: The last feature is probably why it is louder and more resonant than most ES335 type semis accoustically. In my opinion, it is well worth the additional £150 approx outlay over the plainer T386, both sonically and cosmetically: I could really tell the difference. In contrast, I could not really tell much difference from the more expensive violin finished T-59 so could not justify the additional £350 cost. To be honest any of these Eastman semis would be an excellent choice however. The sound is similar to a good ES335 but it is just more alive acoustically. I have a Les Paul and the T486 could not be mistaken for that, while some ES335s can be similar. I generally play into a Fender Super Reverb Reissue. Do BB king licks and it nails THAT sound.
