“This valve is almost an exact replacement for its predecessor which I installed in my yard in 1980. The diaphragms are the most common failure of this product but are no longer available. The diaphragms for the 250 series are slightly different from the 230 series, and will not work as a replacement. However, I read a 2008 blog suggesting that retaining the bottom part of the old valve with the 250 top and diaphragm would work. This eliminates the need to cut into lines. You can even retain the existing solenoid. In making this conversion, use the screws from the old valve with the new top. If you replace the solenoid with the new style solenoid, use the new screws with it as the base is thicker and will need the longer screws. This conversion works great and saves a lot of work compared to replacing the complete valve.”
