How are the Handle and Fittings?
The Unokobi-zukuri build quality is outstanding. Many times you will see katana, particularly in tool steels, having very basic fittings and bland blades. The silk ito is very tight and the haichi style is comfortable. The blacked fuchi and kashira really complement the cupronickel habaki and seppa. The cupronickel and color of the ito are a close match and aesthetically appealing. The transitions are good and even the sageo is substantial. Again, you rarely find so many good components at this price. The cutting capabilities are outstanding. This is very sharp tool steel and the Unokubi geometry allows for a high degree of tip control and a slim profile for cutting. At 2'36", the blade is light and responsive. The bohi gives a very audible tachikaze. The saya is attractive with a profile that matches the fuchi and has no rattle. This is an excellent value for both iai practice and cutting.

Better than I expected. This mid range katana is sturdy, elegant, and performs beautifully in practice. Totally worth it!
