How's the Blade?
How are the Handle and Fittings?
This replication is true to the original blade mentioned by Maj. Rex Applegate in his book: "Kill or Get Killed" published by The Naval & Military Press Ltd ; "The Fighting Knife 11 9/16 inces long. Handle: 4 11/16 inches long Blade: 6 9/16 inches long A 2 inch diamond shaped cross section The handle is round or oval in shape, it's largest diameter is towards the center and it tapers off toward the guard as well as the but. The over-all weight is approximately ten ounces. Such a knife, with balance toward the handle, lends itself more easily to maneuverability, is more easily passed from hand to hand, and with weight in the handle, gives a better grip for passing, thrusting and slashing. It's very design makes it a true fighting knife, combining both cutting and slashing qualities, due to its double edge. The double edge is also desirable in preventing an opponent from wrestling it from the hand of the user." Page 89-90 I personally found this replication easy to work with. While it will make a fine addition to my display collection, I believe that it is truly a "battle ready" knife that faithfully reproduces the original intent of Maj. Applegate and Col. Fairbain. I would not be at all uncomfortable taking this blade back into the field with me on mission. It is not an original blade, but it is a working blade of excellent design. It is not cheaply made, it will not fold in half on you, chip or break during any serious use. This is not a carving blade or one to be used to open a can of peaches. Keep it clean. Keep it sharp. Keep it well oiled and cared for and this blade will serve you for a lifetime. Mine came "sharp". However, I spent some time with it on my strop developing a razors edge on both sides. It did not take long to do so. And the edge stays with the blade. This is well made. I am not at all disappointed. I have spent a large part of my life seeking to better myself in the things that the government spent a great deal of money training me to do. I have been through some of the most intense training facilities staffed with some of the finest instructors in the world. When it came to training with the knife, every one of the three training centers I was privileged to attend pointed out that this knife, and the men responsible for it were true masters of the art. I was required to turn my knife back in at the end of my career. I have since sought out a replacement for my very own. There are many knives available that claim to be the original, or one of a series. I know that this knife, while not an original, is perhaps the finest replication I have come across to date. It feels, it holds, it moves like the one I was issued. That is more than good enough for me. I am very comfortable having this blade as one piece of my Every Day Carry. I have no fear that it will fail me if the time ever came for me to have to defend myself or my loved ones with it. I have that much confidence in it's construction. This is the second blade that I have obtained through Swordis. They create true "battle ready" weapons. Not just pretty pieces of art good for display only. Thank you Swordis for another fine piece of work. I look forward to my next purchase. Dr. Daniel R Thomas
