“I recently had a phone call consultation, and was left uncomfortable with the advice. (Actually, not only was I uncomfortable, but it turned out to be wrong/bad/unnecessary advice.)
I was having an issue with my 7 month old waking up in the middle of the night for no clear reason for over a month. She fell asleep independently for naps and bedtime, she was napping wonderfully, she was not hungry… I called because there must have been something I wasn’t seeing.
The TCB consultant recommended a very slight tweak in schedule. When I asked “so what should I do when she wakes up in the middle of the night?” The answer was “nothing.” I asked “to what end? Sometimes she’s awake an hour and a half or two hours” and the answer I got was “nothing, just leave her to cry it out.”
I was shocked to hear the recommendation was to leave a 7 month old baby to cry on her own for two hours or more, however long it took. I lost a lot of faith in TCB with that recommendation.
Ultimately, as I was unsatisfied with that as a solution, I contacted a sleep consultant whose book I read and who I had consulted 7 years ago when my 1st was a baby before I discovered Taking Cara Babies. After listening to my issue for a few minutes, she spotted the problem immediately— my baby was falling asleep TOO quickly on her own at night; so quickly that she didn’t even process that she was falling asleep by herself and therefore was not truly sleep trained. She recommended I lay her down for bed 15 min earlier, long before she is sleepy, so that she can really do the work herself of winding herself down and putting herself to sleep. It was such a simple tweak that the sleep consultant didn’t even charge me for the 10 min phone call.
I made that adjustment and it was exactly what she needed. She has been a perfect sleeper since.
Needless to say, I am pretty disappointed that not only did the TCB consultant not see the problem, but she made a really unreasonable recommendation which, if I understand TCB, goes against the philosophy.”
“Cara’s programs are amazing ! We did the newborn one and just finished the 5month one. Our baby was sleeping 10-11 hours on night two and goes down wide awake for naps and bedtime! Couldn’t recommend her program enough . Any time we hit a bump in the road my husband always goes “ let’s see what Cara would do “ ! We trust her with all our baby questions”
“I thought I kind of knew it all already. 4 time mom here, sleep trained the other 3 just fine thank you very much. However, this way was much easier, more specific and easier to understand and apply. THANK YOU ! I honestly got my money's worth the first 2 weeks, but i'm glad I can come back and learn more as he grows. He's my chillest baby, but I needed this nonetheless.”
“I was hesitant on paying for a sleep training course after trying to do different things on my own and all of them failed. Someone recommmended Taking Cara Babies and i was desperate for a good night sleep so I decided to do it. Boy am i glad i did! We even started it a couple of weeks before going on vacation and not only did it work great after just a day or two of implimenting the steps but it also helped us tremendously on our vacation! 10/10 recommend and would do it again.”
“I recommend TCB to every new parent I know. Around 6months our good sleeper began needing to be nursed to sleep, then waking and eating 2-3 times a night. We eventually caved and bought the 5-24m collection. By night 4 she was putting herself to sleep without a single cry or fuss! By night 5 all night feeds were weaned. That was nearly 2 months ago and she is still sleeping like a rockstar. Even after thanksgiving travel, she went right back to sleeping well at home! If you’re on the fence about buying because of the money or maybe (like us) you bought the newborn class and think “I know what Cara is going to say”… just know it’s well worth the $$. And even with the newborn class knowledge, this collection was mind blowing and insightful. Absolutely a must have!”
“The collection is fab. My five months old had a good foundation as he was sleeping well since 3 months old but after the regression the dummy became a problem and that when I purchased the collection. Henry now sleeps without dummy from 6:50/7ish to 5:20/5:30am. We are still having early wake ups but we are working on it. :)”
“One month in and its worth every penny! We started right when our little one was 5 months and we will probably get the newborn course when we have a second. We used the snoo for the first 5 months and our little one was so relient she couldnt sleep anywhere else, we knew we needed to break that and get her to sleep through the night. We did it all at once and with Cara's course it went smoother than we expected; by night 5 we had a great little sleeper and then jumped right into conquering naps. If you asked me months ago, I would say our little girl is a horrible sleeper but all I have said the last month is how great of a sleeper we have.”
“We started sleep training because Mya never got out of her 4 month regression. This method gave me comfort that I wasn't abandoning my child. When we started, I knew it was going to be difficult, and the first night was hard. But remembering that the crying was not out of fear but just a protest to the change helped me get through it. We started seeing longer stretches of sleep by night 4! We are now 2 days post the program, and Mya sleeps so well. She is able to put herself back to sleep quite quickly! It's pretty cool to watch her self soothe.
Thank you so much for creating this course! I haven't slept this well in months! I feel more rested and less irritable and I feel like I can be the best mom for my babe!
