Taylors Scottish Breakfast Loose 4.4 Oz Reviews

4.3 Rating 6 Reviews
This is my favorite black tea for having with milk and sugar. Rich and strong, but not too much of that characteristic malty Assam tea flavor. Brighter, and larger pieces than pure Assam or similar. Its a little much plain black, unlike maybe Darjeeling or Yunnan black teas. Good for Oregon soft water.

I had previously tried this tea in sachets and liked it, so I figured I'd try the loose leaf version. I remembered it as being mild and inoffensive, but now having tried the loose tea, my suspicions are confirmed. It is, in fact, mild and inoffensive. I guess my complaint is that it's a little TOO mild. The taste just kind of disappears as soon as you drink it down. On the bright side, it's not a BAD tea either--kibd of floral, never gets bitter--just doesn't have the "punch" I like.

Scottish Breakfast starts my day, and then I continue to drink it all day. I did discover I don't do well with loose tea. So I did a happy dance when you had the bagged tea back in stock.

While I've loved several of Taylors blends in the past, this one seemed a bit lack-luster to me. I gave it two tries and even used more tea leaves than normal. Both times I found it to be milder than expected. It did have a nice malty flavour and wasn't at all disagreeable. Admittedly, its overall mildness did relax me and transport me to the hills of Scotland. If you don't care for bold blends then you'll probably find this one works well for you. If you prefer a bit more "umph" in your cup, I'd recommend trying a different blend.

This is the best version of Scottish Breakfast Tea I've found---I was super-glad to see that Teadog carries it! It is more "leaf" than "granule," and you can see the different leaf varieties in the blend. (Usually this tea is a blend of Assam for boldness and kick, and something perhaps from Sri Lanka to make it smooth.) Taylor's does not disappoint. This tea is very bold---if you like a kick in the morning, this is it. But it also has some nice nuance---if you've ever tried 100% Assam and found it too opaque, this may be the tea for you!
