“We had a wonderful time at Lava Rock. Flush toilet in a cute, nice-smelling outhouse and running water (hose + small sink outside of bathroom) were game changers. Hot shower was a luxury too. The site itself was clean and hidden in a shady clearing in the woods right next to a hiking trail. Highly recommend the hike up Ball Mountain as the views are fabulous. It's quite a steep climb though. The pond is a very short walk away over a mowed field and is in partial view of the hosts' house. It is lovely and clean with a sandy bottom. Patti & Jim even share their boats and lawn games. The stargazing is fabulous as well. Only compliant is the top bunk air mattress had a leak during our trip. This is more of a Tentrr issue in general, as air mattresses are notoriously hard to stay full. Overall our trip was wonderful and relaxing and we definitely recommend this beautiful site.”
“Great site! Swimming water in pond was clear. This site was very clean and well maintained. We enjoyed a quiet, relaxing weekend. The flushing toilet in the out house was a pleasant surprise! Thanks to our hosts, the Stockmans, for their hospitality and being responsive to our questions pre-arrival.”
“Jim and Patty’s Lava Rock site is beautiful and was a great place for our little family to visit - with trailheads and swimming pond so close we could move at a slow pace/pace of our child in between their naps. Extra amenities like the shower and bathroom are luxuries we were grateful for with a 1.5 year old. Would definitely stay again if they would have us.”
“A very unique location with excellent hiking right from the campsite. The site itself provided shade during the heat! Flushing toilet and heated shower were nice bonuses to have and both very clean. The swimming pond was very refreshing and we appreciated the extra noodles, floats and picnic table. We were caught in two rain storms and would recommend having extra tarps/rain gear! We had a sensor light for the interior of the bathroom which was useful after dark. There is electricity in the small cabin by the pond for charging items. All in all, we really enjoyed our stay.”
“My husband and I stayed 3 nights with our 5 yo son and dog. The campsite is clean, private and very well equipped. The flushing toilet and sink are a game changer! The hiking trails are pretty well marked and easily accessible, and legit hiking trails, not just walking through some woods in someone’s backyard. The swim spot is totally on point. The water is clear and clean, sandy with no muck or gross stuff! We visited the swim hole at least 3x a day, perfect for kids! The owners are super nice, not up in your face at all, but around if you need anything. The bugs are horrible, but reading previous reviews, we came prepared with tons of spray and a thermacell lantern. We left a small fire smoldering most of the time too which seemed to help. The star gazing in the field is amazing! For us, this place checks all the boxes we want for camping: privacy, swimming, hiking, dog and kid friendly. We will be back for sure!
