“Not only were Missy and George hands down the nicest hosts imaginable, their site was above and beyond. There were games and a grill and 3 (yea you read that right) fire pits!! From the minute we arrived until the minute we left, we felt at home. I WILL be back!!”
“Amazing place to stay. Everything was clean, neat and organized. They put a ton of effort to make sure their guests are comfortable. I would stay here again.”
“It is really a wonderful trip! The host is being really nice to us all and campsite literally has everything you need to live comfortably. The view in reality is much better than the photos - the only disappointing thing is that we didn't have good luck to see the horses. Highly recommend!”
“Where do I even begin?! This is our second trip to Flat Creek Island at Hoofbeats and I cannot find words adequate enough to describe how AMAZING our stay was. The campkeepers have made some upgrades to the site (like real foam mattresses!!!), not that it needed much. Our stay was magical, restful, and restorative and was everything we needed that we didn't know we needed. The hosts are such gracious and amazing people and it was such a pleasure to enjoy their property again. The sounds of the stream running past the site, the firepit on the little island, the very comfortable composting commode and shower, the newly added gas grill - IN ADDITION to the dual-gas burners AND wood fire pit for cooking.....what more can you want from a campsite?! I'm excited to return to this amazing place next year!”
“You will not be disappointed if you choose Flat Creek Island at Hoofbeats. It is truly a piece of heaven. The site is on the bank of a creek and you are surrounded by trees. We had a great time despite the rain and colder than normal temperatures. We stayed warm and toasty in the tent because of the propane heater. Missy and George were so kind offering more propane in case it ran out. The canopy they have over the table was perfect. It gave us a nice dry place to sit and eat. They stocked the little cabinets on the ends of the table with all of the essentials. They also have a propane stove for you to cook on if your not good at cooking on a fire.
Missy and George have gone above and beyond to make sure you have a great experience. The shower/composting toilet structure is awesome. They even have a mini water tower and cool system for making hot water for the shower.
The bed was made with fresh sheets and bed spread. They also upgraded to the memory foam mattress, which was soo much better than the air matress. The matress was so comfortable that we slept as if we were in our own bed. If you weren't in a tent, you wouldn't remember that you were camping.
We were visited by 2 blue herons and saw deer when we walked the trails on their property. The horses stayed up by the main barn but Missy and George have it set up so that the horses can wander the property as if they were a wild herd. As they travel it is set up so that the horses come by the campsite.
Missy and George were so sweet. They brought us fresh eggs from their chickens. They also kept apologizing for the terrible weather. If it wasn't for all of the extras they provided and their thoughtfulness we wouldn't have had such a good time.
There is plenty to do nearby. We brought our bikes and rode the Erie Canal Rail Trail, which was about 20 minutes away. The town of Cobelskill is about 15 minutes away and has a grocery store and a Walmart in case you need anything.
We enjoyed our trip so much that we have planned to come back and will bring our dogs instead of the bikes. We were talking with Missy and George about how we like to bring our dogs, but because we brought the bikes we didn't take them. Missy then said that we got her wheels turning about how she could offer a kennel service to guests with dogs. It's the little things like this that they do which make you feel welcomed.”
