“Beautiful site. Incredibly kind and accommodating camp keepers. All around we had a blast!
Background: Before arriving we comminuted with James that we would get to the camp at night. They had no issues meeting with this and gave us their personal number to contact them. We made the easy, quick, and scenic drive from DC. Just under 3.5 hours.
The arrival: James and his lovely wife were kind enough to meet us at the main house and drive us to the spot where they had anticipated our evening arrival by turning on some four separate lanterns for us- which they provided. They let us know who and how to reach someone if we needed anything. They also provided a ton of perks we weren’t expecting- maps, lists with things to do like hiking or biking or wineries, board games, extra flashlights, extra firewood, pans, ziplocks, anything you could possibly forget they had! They even provided an extra table and chairs. Cannot say enough about how thoughtful they were. You could tell they wanted to make the experience worthwhile, and boy did they! At one point we text James with a question and he responded in minutes. Even as a lawyer I’m impressed!
The site: the spot overall is unique. The tent looks out directly to the little creek or river. You have plenty of room to move around. The spot is slightly sloped but didn’t cause too many issues. There was nice trees for shade and since we went in the fall they provided some picturesque leaves and sounds in the breeze. The tent itself was a dream. We are AVID campers and decided to try something new. Glad we did because this was luxury. Tons of space. TONS. And the stove inside the tent kept us warm even in low 30 degree weather. It also kept us totally dry when it poured down rain our last night. We slept really well with the sound of drops hitting the roof. Also, behind the tent is a big open field adjacent to another field with cows (which moo at night) that were so cute! Up the ways you can walk about five or so minutes to the Skipping Rocks site which appeared to have a better swimming hole for the summer but we agreed that Honeysuckle Hideaway was more private.
The loo: honestly. No big deal. Use it either inside or outside the tent. Change the bag (Which the provide) and you’re good to go.
The fire pit: this was great. Nice and big and came with a little rack which could be adjusted as needed. Very useful for the several meals we made.
Overall:10/10 we had such a memorable time. The campkeepers were accommodating and responsive. The river was nice. The site was private. We will surely be back!”
