“This was our first camping experience and it was perfect. The site was fully stocked with everything we needed to cook a great dinner, relax by the fire, and sleep comfortably. Our boys had a blast hiking and swimming. Bill was so helpful; we followed him into the site and he gave us an overview on all the equipment so we could make the most of our stay. The car did get stuck in some mud temporarily because we only had front wheel drive and he expertly pulled us out with his ATV. We didn't meet Paula, but she was very responsive on text. Couldn't have asked for better hosts or a better stay!”
“This was the second yr I booked the site with Paula and Bill. And both years we have had a fantastic stay. They made sure we had every thing we needed and of course went out of their way. Providing tubes for the river and even offering to drive us up river to float to our site. They also let us this perfect patch of their property to star gaze. Which absolutely amazing. I can’t even begin to explain how amazing It feels to have a river running through your back yard . The tents themselves were prepped and cleaned with everything you need. They provided everything they’re posting promises and more….the perfect example being how I lost my Apple ear buds up there, since I mentioned it to Paula, they’ve gone out repeatedly to find them. You simply won’t find kinder, sweeter people or a site as well run and maintained. I’d give them 10 stars if I could!”
“Paula and Jim could not have been nicer, more helpful and more accommodating. They both went above-and-beyond to make our stay comfortable. The property is beautiful and the campsite was very well-appointed. Highly recommend this to anyone looking for a great camping experience!”
“Paula’s property is incredible! They have everything you could need and are the absolute nicest hosts. We booked very last minute and they accommodated us with no problem. We went with a 2yr old and a dog and had a blast! Will definitely be back.”
“Bill and Paula were wonderful hosts for our family of five with three children under five! Their campsite was immaculate with everything we could ask for and more. Their hospitality was fantastic. They were responsive, detail-oriented, and focused on ensuring we had a great experience. We'd recommend Hucklebuck Railway Camp West to anyone looking for a perfect place to escape, relax, rest, and connect with nature.”
“We spent a weekend here with our 2 kids, 2 dogs and our friends who are a family of 4 and also have 2 dogs. The campsite is well equipped and very well maintained. Very clean and easy to access with AWD - if you only have front wheel drive you can park on the private road and walk a very short walk to the campsite (the hosts are happy to help you unload your stuff and bring it to the site with their golf cart). There are tarps over the picnic area which is great in case of bad weather or just as shade from a hot sun (though there is lots of tree coverage too). The extra tent on site came in handy for our friends and was big enough to sleep 4. Paula supplied lots of cookware and cooking utensils and water. There's a grate you can cook over the campfire with as well as a charcoal grill. They supplied us with lots of water and even checked in after a day to see if we needed any refills (which we did!) and dropped off water refills while we were at the river. Our kids (ages 6-10) loved playing in the river. There's a very easy to walk trail that is marked with bright orange flags that leads right to a swimming hole in the river. There was a swimming area that was deep enough that no one was able to reach the bottom and there were lots of spots that were waist deep or just ankle deep for kids who can't swim or adults who just wanted to cool off without going under. We brought a bunch of tubes and rafts with us and the kids played in the water all day long. We were able to swim, to walk up and down the river catching minnows, small fish and crayfish. I am no fish expert but we did see a random few trout (maybe?) that were about 12 in long as well. After playing in the water all day we had a great time cooking over the campfire and making s'mores of course! Can't say enough good things about this site and our hosts!”
