Tentrr is your private camping experience. We connect adventurers like you with private landowners who want to share their land so you can experience new places.
“John and Pat were top notch hosts and truly have a beautiful plot of land that made for an amazing weekend away from the daily grind. We have camped all over New England and this was one of our favorite spots to date. Very private and peaceful spot right on the water with all the amenities. We will certainly be back in the near future!”
“John and Par are amazing! The camp site was perfect, and we were there when New England was in the middle of a heat wave. We had all of the things we could need - cooking/cleaning supplies, water, kayaks, fire pit, and a fantastic gas grill.
We did not have any trouble with wild animals, BUT we did have an incredible experience watching the family of bald eagles across the water. It was amazing, and we will definitely be back!”
“This site exceeded our expectations 10 fold! John and Pat made our time at Slippery Rocks extremely enjoyable. They were gracious hosts; ensuring we had plenty of water and answering any questions we could come up with. John shared the history of his land and provided us with a map of his property (so beautiful btw). The site also exceeded our expectations. The view of the river from lying in the queen size bed (real mattress & boxspring) is breathtaking. John built an out house for the tentrr provided camp loo (HUGE PLUS!). There were lanterns in the tent waiting for us, as well as a book about local birds and plenty of firewood. We rented the tandem kayak and had a ball (lifejackets provided). While out on the kayak we paddled over to where John pointed out to us and were able to see 2 juvenile bald eagles! We were having such an amazing time that we asked John if the site was booked for the day after we were supposed to leave, and ended up adding an additional night! We will most certainly be back to Slippery Rocks, and can't wait to see the site in the fall! *Important to note, we were nervous about having to carry all of our stuff a long distance from the car... we drive a jeep and were able to drive it right down to the camp site (following John on his ATV) - huge plus. The site is surrounded by very tall trees and was always shaded with a nice breeze passing through the trees (it was PERFECT!). Many naps were taken in the hammock while listening to the river. Next to the kayak and canoe parking spots is the area where you can walk into the river (you walk in about ankle deep). We brought 2 floats (and John provided a tube) and spent a lot of time just floating in the river by the site. We did not find the bugs to be a huge issue - we had citronella candles and thermacell butane bug repellents that we turned on before heading to bed. We also purchased the cooking package (huge recommendation here), as there was everything we could've needed. Slippery Rocks (John & Pat) have converted us into campers! Can't wait to return.”
“One of our favorite campsites to date. My sister and I stayed at John & Pat's amazing glamping site for a weekend in July with my pup. We usually tent camp, so we brought all of our normal essentials except for our tent, but we really didn't need to bring anything aside from food and drinks! Our wonderful hosts provided everything- plenty of potable water, camp stove with propane, a hammock, dog bowls, lanterns inside the tent, a queen bed, bundle of firewood (only $5 a bundle after that), tongs, kayak/canoe (for an additional fee), they even built an outhouse for the tentrr loo (something we were so appreciative for, especially since we had camped at other tentrr sites and having the loo inside the tent was our least favorite part!). John was very communicative from the time we arrived until we left, even allowing us to check out later since no one had booked the site on the day we were leaving. The river was amazing, we spent most of our time swimming and exploring the nearby islands- the bald eagle nest was incredible to see from the water. The river was relatively quiet for a hot summer weekend, but everyone we encountered were wicked friendly, and we even got a fireworks show from across the river one night! We also brought a screened ez-up to put over the picnic table, which came in handy since the mosquitoes were in full force if you weren't next to the fire and there wasn't a breeze. The sunsets over the water were gorgeous, we had light at the site well past 9pm. We felt completely secluded, it was such a relaxing time and only a short drive to the supermarket in Lewiston and a nearby gas station to restock our ice. Can't wait to return.”
“John and Pat were great hosts and the campsite was amazing! John showed us to the tent site, gave us a quick tour of everything, and even took the time to tell us all about the property and how it's all come together over the years. Their commitment to the land is great and I am so grateful that we were able to come and enjoy it.
Highly recommend a kayak package - the river was nice and calm and there is so much to explore. No doubt that with everything to see and do here, we will be back!”
“We stayed here over 4th of July weekend in 2018, and it has hands down been one of our favorite weekends all year. Our group of 4 included one person who loves to camp, one person who had never enjoyed it in the past and two complete rookies on their first ever camping trip. From the moment we arrived we had 3 new camping converts, and since the trip ended we haven't stopped talking about planning our next trip. The setting was spectacular- felt like we were on our own private island. We had two dogs with us who had an absolute blast swimming in the water, as did we. We ended up running low on wine and a few food items but there was a grocery store a short drive away where we were able to re-stock- a nice perk for those forgetful packers. John and Pat were the most amazing hosts. They were friendly and helpful, provided everything we needed and were on hand if anything came up, but gave us plenty of space to enjoy the beautiful site on our own without interruptions. The land is incredible, and the commitment to conservation from John and Pat was really inspiring. I hope you all book with them- just not on a weekend we're trying to make a repeat trip ;-)”
“The campsite was nothing short of gorgeous, and John was a fantastic host! We didn't end up taking advantage of the walking trails, opting instead to sit by the fire and enjoy the spectacular view. I would 100% stay here again!”
“Camping at Slippery Rock River Retreat was one of the best camping experiences I can remember. We spent three nights there and it could not have been more perfect. John and Pat led us to the beautiful campsite on a jut of land that extends into the river. You have over 180 degrees of water views from the tent! You are provided with a map of over 12 miles of trails around the 400+ acres of land. The trails have varying degrees of difficulty, perfect for families out for a walk, experienced hikers and bikers, and everyone in between. I walked and hiked with our pup and my partner went on daily runs, making sure to leave no trail untouched. I highly suggest hiking to the duck pond they created in the middle of their land - bring a snack and sit and watch the birds come and go. It's absolutely breathtaking. At night, grab a flashlight and take a night walk to the field by the Little House. We started calling it The Planetarium. I've never seen a night sky so clear and beautiful.
To the right of the tent, when the river is low, you have your own personal beach! Even when the water is high, the river is shallow enough for wading out pretty far! The water is clear and beautiful. At most times, the river seems so still I would have thought it a lake. We opted for a canoe at the site and spent so much time paddling up and down the river. Eagles had nested just across the river and we were able to watch them come and go from the canoe and from the chairs outside the campsite.
The sunsets from the site are more beautiful than can ever be described in a review! You can watch the sun set over the river right from the campfire! Our very first night, we watched it from the river, having walked out until we were about waist deep. I have never felt so enveloped by beauty in all of my life.
Shortly after we arrived, there was a short lived but intense thunderstorm. We watched in awe from inside the tent but were hardly bothered by it. John stopped over the next day just to check in, which was incredibly considerate of him! The pride he has for the land is evident when he talks about it. We consider John and Pat to be true environmental heroes. The trip would not have been the same without sitting and listening to the stories of how his beautiful piece of heaven came to be. Though I was in awe of all of it, my favorite part was hearing how he bought a piece of land, even though they didn't really have the money, in order to prevent it from being developed. My heart swelled while exploring the grounds, knowing it's beauty and preservation is safe.
There is wildlife everywhere! Adorable otters splashed and swam around the site, there were so many different birds, and the sounds of animals in the distance lulled us to sleep at night.
Slippery Rock River Retreat is a magical and special place. Secluded, peaceful, beautiful, I could type for days and I still wouldn't be able to express it. If you are considering spending time at this site, stop considering and book!”
