Tentrr is your private camping experience. We connect adventurers like you with private landowners who want to share their land so you can experience new places.
“We had an absolutely wonderful time at Slippery Rock River Retreat. The tent is large and spacious and right on the water. We added on the canoe package which I highly recommend. We canoed around the river and explored the little islands around where we laid out on mini beaches, tanned, and swam. John and Pat were great hosts and have taken very good care of their land. We will 100% be back!”
“I cannot say enough good things about this little slice of heaven. John and his family were so wonderful and we appreciate all that they are doing to preserve and maintain this special land. We had such a wonderful time swimming, canoeing, reading and walking in the nearby fields. It was nearly impossible to get our chocolate lab back in the car to go home after the weekend. The campsite is extremely well maintained, everything was exceptionally clean and well-kept. Highly recommend Slippery Rock and looking forward to visiting again someday!”
“My husband and I had a wonderful time at Slippery Rock. It was our first Tentrr experience, and it was superb. John and Pat were amazing hosts and spent the time to give us a little history of the property, make sure we had everything we needed, and give us a map of the trails. We hiked around, relaxed in hammocks, and canoed! We also had some great wildlife sightings! I highly recommend Slippery Rock for anyone looking to get away for a day or two!”
“We had an absolutely wonderful time staying at this beautiful Tentrr site! The hosts were so friendly and welcoming, and the spot is absolutely stunning! I was a bit nervous because this was our first time using Tentrr, but I was completely blown away by the gorgeous surroundings and perfectly-appointed campsite details.
We opted for the canoe package and highly recommend adding that, too! The river is very calm and lake-like and there were nice sandy shallows for wading with our dogs.
I really can't recommend this spot highly enough—definitely five stars!”
“This is by far and wide the best campsite I have ever stayed at! My fiancé and I decided we wanted to give camping a try together, we had both camped in our youth but this was our first experience together, and we couldn’t have chosen a better campsite.
Nestled in the trees on the banks of the Androscoggin River, in a somewhat sleepy town called Greene, this campsite is the perfect location for couples/friends looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life and unwind in the peace and serenity that is this 400 acre property.
When you arrive, you’ll be greeted by Jon, a kind-hearted man who’s both owner and operator of this expansive estate, along with his wife Pat a caring woman, and their Irish Wolfhound Lilly, whose both massive in size and in enthusiasm for new people. Jon will then hop in his tractor and guide you down to the campsite, which is just a short drive down the hill and into the trees.
After parking your car, you’ll be amazed to find the campsite is on its own woodland peninsula! The outer edge of the campsite is lined with trees of all shapes and sizes, giving the site plenty of shade. And when I say right on the water, I mean it. You can fish right from the table or fire pit if you wanted to, that’s how close it is. The campsite itself has everything you would need for your stay. The canvas tent is established on a well built platform, inside holds the queen size cot, several LED lanterns, a tent stove for cold nights, a camper toilet with essentials, and a map of the property. The tent also has plenty of room for any bags/equipment you bring along, so there’s no need to keep running back to the car. The campsite also has a solar shower, 5gal water jug w/spigot, 2 sturdy Adirondack chairs, large wooden table for meals, 2 wooden box benches with dry food storage inside, a smaller table/cabinet for food prep and utensil storage, a large fire pit is set off to the side and has a cooking grate. Firewood is available for use, and there’s no shortage of usable wood in your area around the campsite as well.
The fires we built started with what we collected on the ground, and maintained with the firewood we were given. And if you like an easy way to get a fire going quick, pick up some birch bark (white bark, smooth and papery) which can be found on the ground in several areas around and behind the tent. Birch bark has natural oils in it that are perfect for holding a flame (even when wet!).
Once you’ve established yourselves, you’re free to walk the 400 acres via well marked trails. The land itself is beautiful, Jon and Pat really take care of the property and strive to keep it as conservation land.
If trailblazing isn’t your thing, there’s an inlet to the right of the campsite where the sandy shore is bathed in sunlight and the water is warm. Perfect for swimmers on the fisherman. The fish are jumping constantly, there’s some beavers nearby that’ll swim right by you, and even some eagles nesting on the island in the river.
It’s so quiet here, with only the occasional boat churning by in the distance or seaplane landing or taking off on the opposite side of the island. The wind is constant at times, but never forceful. A cool breeze off the water is perfect for the summer visitors. I often found myself just reclining in the Adirondack chair taking in the sounds of nature and the feel of that cool breeze just melting the stresses of everyday life away.
Should you need anything, or perhaps you forgot to pack a particular item, you’re not far from local convenience stores which are well stocked and only a short drive away.
This was truly an experience, and one we look forward to booking again for even longer. It’s was easy to get to, and harder to leave behind! We couldn’t ask for a more welcoming and secluded spot, having just the backdrop of nature be our home for our stay. 5/5 stars, 110% positive rating, you couldn’t make a better choice!”
“No question, 5 star experience. A short 2.5 hr drive from Boston was perfect to maximize the weekend.
Awesome, quiet, serene campsite right on the water. The Androscoggin River is so calm it is more like a lake, so much so that seaplanes take off and land right across from the site. Little to no boat traffic.
John & Pat were wonderful hosts, providing a warm Maine welcome when we arrived and checked in to make sure we had everything we needed, including a detailed map of the property (you'll need it!).
Their massive property included a beautiful marked hiking trail and a serene pond, fit for any landscape painter, hiker, fisherman, or photographer.
Wildlife we saw:
-Beaver
-Bald eagles (daily, the nest is well within view of the site)
-Snapping Turtle
-Porcupine
-Woodpecker (Multiple varieties)
A long weekend wasn't long enough! We'll be back later this summer.
Thanks again to John & Pat for their lifelong commitment to the conservation of that beautiful land, and sharing it with the rest of us.
Chris & Cathryn”
“I went on a Tentrr trip in July. A few of us decided to go on again in the fall. Karin was super helpful and responsive. We made the long drive from NYC up to Maine. We knew as soon as we pulled up to the site that it was totally worth it!!! The super spacious tent had a gorgeous view of the river and some small islands. Since we didn't have to set anything up (thank goodness!) and we were pretty exhausted from the drive, we just lit a fire, poured ourselves some whiskey and enjoyed the night. We woke up to beavers jumping in the river and a bald eagle swooping down the river, catching fish. It was incredible!! We went to a local market for farm-fresh eggs and butter. We went kayaking, took a boat ride around the river and even went on a seaplane tour!! John and Pat had thought of every detail and made this trip unforgettable. We can't wait to go back; we're already planning a November trip!
Tip: We highly recommend all the extras - from the cooking package to the seaplane. John and Pat thought of everything and we didn't have to worry about the little details (like tongs for picking up hot food from the grill). We expected bugs but didn't see too many. We did use a thermacell and it kept all the bugs away! Last but not least, the wood stove is a lifesaver! It kept us warm all night.”
