“I booked Downing Wood for a quick but much needed trip into nature/ escape from the city. I'm happy to report that it delivered on all fronts! It's super convenient to get to by train (I highly recommend springing for the shuttle service and firewood add-ons). It's a gorgeous site with close proximity to hiking trails. Plus the sleeping accommodations are comfortable and cozy! Patrick is a great host, he went above and beyond to make my stay a great one. Over-all a fantastic getaway for the apartment bound urbanite!”
“The location is ideal, very quiet and secluded but still a short walk from the house for filling up the water Igloo and getting firewood in the wheelbarrow. The bed was warm and comfortable, the lanterns were good for reading by. We made some nice meals on the fire. Access to the Appalachian Trail is 1.5 miles away up a pleasant unpaved road, and the hiking is great. I recommend having Patrick pick you up at the station if you're arriving by train, because cell reception is spotty and taxi and Lyft options are limited. All in all, we really enjoyed our stay--the owners are super friendly.”

“Patrick was an excellent host. Downing Wood was a beautiful site with access to great hiking trails. This site is perfect for people without a car, as long as you plan ahead and bring in your food. I recommend the pick up and the firewood add ons.”
“A very cute spot. You can see the owners house in the distance but are far enough away for it to feel private. You have to park at the owners house and walk to the site, just an FYI. Wish this had water access nearby but it’s still a really peaceful place. Would come back here.”
“We needed a break from the city and this was a great spot to do it in.
Patrick is a great host, he has a lot of amenities at the site so you don't have to bring too much (ex: camping chairs, some cooking tools, bed was made).
You do need to walk through the house's pool area to get to the site but once you're at the site you barely register that the house is there and it is pretty quiet.
