“Downing Wood is a great spot close to New York City. Patrick greeted us, showed us to our spot and provided recommendations for us. “Patrick was kind and responsive, however I found several things incredibly challenging.
First and foremost, I didn't realize the camp site was going be so close to the landowner's home ~150 yards. That said, we were unable to keep our car on site with us and had to park it on the property owner's driveway. This was particularly inconvenient because we had to constantly transport food from the car to site- we were informed there were black bear sightings and had to take extra precaution. Lastly, we purchased the following add-ons: 2 lattes (they did not provide so we were issued a refund), bike rental (there are no real bike trails so I would opt on), s'mores (always great!).
I would recommend this camp site, but want to do my best to manage everyone's expectations.”
“Patrick really was such a gracious host - pointing out landmarks and trail markers to us along the way as he picked us up from the Metro North station. He even thoughtfully texted us the number of a local pizzeria in case we were low on food!
We could not have had a better time.”
“We spent 4 nights at "Downing Wood". Patrick was a great host. He was VERY helpful. His site is a wonderful way to get a quick get-a-way from NYC. We enjoyed going to the many NYS vineyards about one hour away.”

“This was one of the best easy getaways ever!! The CampKeepers made sure we got there ok and comfortable with the site, helped us find a place to go fishing (fahnestock state park) where I actually caught my first fish, and made sure we had the worlds best firewood in the world, drying for 18 months, made the bonfire part of the night super easy. Everything was there waiting for us, from all the kitchen utensils to extra camp chairs and even the comfiest casper mattress which made for an amazing nights sleep. My dogs did NOT want to leave, we had to drag them back into the car and they are now still sleeping from running so much. Thank you Patrick and fam, that was exactly the weekend we were looking for!”
