“Who stays in an abandoned zoo? we did! So cool! The tent was very nice and clean and no animals bothered us at night. Exploring the abandoend zoo was the highlight of the trip though”
“Peaceful, we enjoyed our stay in a quiet location surrounded by trees. Easy to walk to the abandoned zoo, in itself an interesting visit. The caretaker, Sean (sp) was great to speak with. I'd definitely re-visit again.”
“Definitely one of the best sites in the Catskills. The site itself is almost 2 miles into the woods away from the road and is very quiet. I did not see another human the whole time I was there, and the site was stocked when I arrived. The zoo is just the icing on the cake.”
“The privacy of the site is great and the innkeeper Mo was so helpful. However, the materials inside the tent was really mediocre- molded mattress, no separate portapotty were major turnoff to me. There was trash inside the tent when we arrived including cigarette butts and the $20 beddings were very cheap not so amazing but it was there. The moldy mattress was the biggest nightmare but we survived the stay.
+we had to take our toddler to emergency because she started a sever symptoms of hard breathing and eczma (she never had it before). It could have been triggered from many different things like smoke from fire but I am very suspicious of the moldy mattress she slept in.”
“We got rained in the day we were at the site, so it wasn’t quite as expected. That said, we spent a nice day in with the fire going reading magazines. The site is very isolated, save for the occasional sound of gunfire from a nearby range.”
“We had a great time exploring the old zoo grounds. The site was lovely with the fall leaves, and the wood stove kept us warm. Ben was super helpful getting us to site, and when we needed extra wood. Definitely plan to come back for more. Our trip was short so we saw the zoo, but not any of the other nature hiking so close by.”
