“A fun memory-making trip for my three sons and me. My boys range from 5 to 9 years old and this was a great introduction to tent-style camping. Shari was helpful, kind, and easy to communicate with throughout our trip. The boys loved the large tent, grilling burgers over the fire, the adjacent grassy area to play ladder ball, and walking the farm to pet the working dogs and meet the Alpacas. Next time I'll bring a soccer or football, as well. We opted to pay for the farm tour, which I'd highly recommend. It provides the opportunity to learn about the farm, feed the Alpacas, and pet the dogs. We also paid for the firewood bundle to be at the site when we arrived as it is cost competitive and saves additional items to pack in. The farm is within a 5-minute drive to a gas station and town, where we drove to get some ice cream, buy more ice, and cool off. Read through the bathroom situation and ensure that you and your kiddos are comfortable with using the bathroom amidst a small tented area with bugs in it. Bring bug spray and light a fire to keep the mosquitoes at bay. If you are hoping to hike then you'll need to drive somewhere as the trees behind the site end immediately and there was not any wooded area within walking distance to explore. It's a working farm with multiple housing units on it so it's not quiet during the day, but the site is offset from the main working farm and still felt like a quiet and wooded reprieve, especially at night. If you're looking for an easy and quick weekend camping trip to make s'mores, sleep under the stars, play boardgames, and meet some Alpacas then I'd highly recommend Cascade Rose Alpaca Farm--we'll certainly be back again!”
“Make sure you get food to feed the alpacas! They’re SO CUTE and curious but having food handy will keep them around longer.
Bug spray is a must have at the tent site.
And look for the adorable cat just inside the front gate. Probably the happiest cat we’ve ever met.
Decent grocery store just down the street.”
“This was a great stay. Clean, quiet camp site with basics needed for cooking outdoors, outside potty, and eating and resting. Make sure to remember bedding-I did not. Host kindly supplied me with a pillow upon request. The listing says that the tent sleeps six guests, but did not say how. There was one full sized bed and a hammock, so that’s three. If you have a large group, they need to bring outdoor sleeping bags or cots. We got to tour the alpaca farm as well, which was fun.”
“Look, if you’re looking for camping on AirBnB you have to realize that it isn’t actually an in-the-wild experience. Also, if you are looking for glamour, don’t go to a camp site. If you really think about the intersection of camping and staying at an AirBnB, this location is quite true to what that would be. This stay feels like camping in that it’s a (very nice, elevated, posh) tent with a camp toilet and a fire pit, but the listing makes it look like it’s deep in a forest, which isn’t the case. Instead, it’s in a very green, wooded part of a farm property with several houses around. It feels a bit like camping in someone’s backyard.
Here are a few more observations in no particular order:
This is a good place to stay if you’re traveling with a dog.
The alpacas on the farm are very cute and if you’re into knitting (or just a fan of gift shops) there’s a nice little farm shop.
We didn’t have lots of interaction with the tent keeper, Shari (she has a farm to run!) but she was present enough to make sure that everything was going all right.
It was very pleasant to fall asleep to the sounds of peepers and bullfrogs, and it’s situated in a pretty part of the property.
There’s not a lot to do in town, so I wouldn’t stay here for more than a few days.
If you absolutely can’t handle bugs, don’t go camping.”
“Great stay! Shari was a terrific host, and feeding the alpacas was a treat. Lots of recreational opportunities nearby, plus the charming small town of Carnation. Opt for the extra bedding, and sleep snugly under a warm alpaca wool blanket.”
