“This lake is everything! We brought our dogs and they’ve never swam before because they are scared of ocean waves but this was perfect. They could walk in and out at their leisure, and we could too. Will definitely come back!”
“We had such a great camping experience at Lake Grinnell. Our campkeeper was very responsive and guided us to the campsite. He informed us the day before that the bunk beds weren't operational and gave us some yoga mats for my two young kids to sleep on in the tent. We traveled with three small kids and they absolutely loved the access to the lake. It's a beautiful, private spot with stunning views. We will be back next year!”
“The place was beautiful and exactly as pictured. The host was helpful and gave me everything I needed before check in. It was a surprise weekend for my boyfriend and he loved it and though the place was amazing.”
“The Camp Lake Grinnell campsite is beautiful. For those looking for a peaceful retreat from NYC without spending hours and hours to get there, it is about ideal. And while we had a nice family time there, we will likely not return. Here's why: when you pay $130/night to the CampKeeper for a spartan campsite and another $20 to Tentrr for the setup, you expect that both will actually deliver the handful of amenities they committed to providing. Neither did. The 5 gallons of water was nowhere to be found; fortunately, we brought our own. The only trashcan was level full; we had to put all our trash back into the car on the way out. The loo was also "full." And while we didn't need the bunk bed, it was falling apart and would have been dangerous to use.
Our family travels a lot, both domestically and internationally. We tend to stay in simple places and value new experiences over luxury. But when you charge $150/night for an experience, you need to deliver. Tentrr and the CampKeeper didn't: 3 stars for the beautiful location and proximity to NYC but it is way overpriced for what it is.”
“So this is a rip off, for $120 a night you would expect glamping but this is way closer to camping that should be A LOT less. There was no water at the site, the trash can was full from the previous guests and stayed full all weekend even after texting the campkeeper twice about it. When we got to the camp site there was a bobby pin on the air mattress, which lets me know no one is really cleaning the site at all. The sunshower is a bag that you can potentially hang on a tree and you have to go find water to fill up the 5 gallon bag which by the way was covered in stink bugs when opening it. We wanted a debunked bed, and the tools were not available. We went and bought a wrench and screwdriver and it was not easy to debunk, very heavy. The location is nice and conveniently located, and I guess our campkeeper was away for the weekend. We never met him and only briefly spoke to him a couple times. But yeah for this price, stick to Airbnb glamping sites. It would be more reasonable if this was $30-50 a night because you’re literally just paying for a nice tent with an air mattress on a bed stand. There is a bench and table, but definitely bring your own supplies for cooking there was a pair of very dirty tings at the site and that’s about it. Also make sure to exchange numbers with the campkeeper early, there wasn’t much response messaging from the site. Also the app kept crashing when trying to use it the whole time.”
“TL;DR: The location was absolutely BREATH-TAKING and the CampKeeper, Jason, was incredibly helpful and kind. But Tentrr was a NIGHTMARE to work with and incredibly disorganized. Very upsetting and disappointed with their service.
We stayed at Camp Lake Grinnell for one night and unfortunately came across quite a few problems. First, the directions Tentrr gave us to get to the location (which was a bit off the beaten path) were incorrect and did not match the directions Jason said he gave them. It took over 2 hours for Tentrr to "figure out the situation" which never actually happened. After waiting for them to "figure it out", we finally we asked if we could speak to Jason directly and as soon as we contacted him, it was figured out immediately.
After getting settled at the campsite over 2 hours after we originally planned, due to their mistake, we noticed there was no water container or sun shower at the site. We contacted the CampKeeper and he told us that he had emailed Tentrr about this situation weeks ago but they never sent one. Another Tentrr issue. He offered to bring us water but we told him not to worry about it and that we could pick some up. We also let him know that the campers before us had left a ton of trash and within an hour he sent people to pick up the trash and even gave us a gift as an apology for all of the issues we faced.
Overall, the campsite and the CampKeeper were incredible and we would absolutely recommend staying there again. However, Tentrr has a lot of issues it needs to figure out to ensure guests get what they paid for because not only did we lose precious time at our site but we also had to spend additional money on things that the site did not have but claimed that "every site" was equipped with.”
“The location was great and I loved how private the place was. It’s a bit difficult to find but the host picked up the phone the second time and explained it well until we got to the place. It got cloudy while we stayed but I’m think the stars would look pretty on sunny, clear days! Also, make sure to bring extra woods if you want to keep the fire going for a while. Overall, it was a good experience for us three girls that never camped! Definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a private quiet place.”
