“TL:DR - Great campground and nice tent site. Be warned it is about a 1/4 mile to the bathrooms. If you have the option when booking pick Beachside A location.
This is my first time using TENTRR and first time to Galveston Island State Park. I did have a little learning curve with this.
1. Print the parking pass; I forgot to print it. The staff was helpful, but it added an extra step when they were busy, that just didn't need to happen.
2. The park is set up well with RV and tent camping with public access shower / toilets in the middle. The building is well made and kept clean considering the amount of traffic through. Campsite B is located about 1/4 mile (300 yards) from the bathrooms. That is a long hike in the middle of the night when you have to go. Plan accordingly. As above, if you rent Campsite A it is about 30 yards from the building, much closer. If anything could be improved it would be adding the Tentrr Loo to this site.
3. We didn't initially realize we had access to the whole park. The park is the width of Galveston Island and the highway runs through it. There is a beach side entrance and bay side entrance. The beach is what we went for and had a great time. It is a short walk over the sand dunes and your on the beach. The park was busy with day and weekend users, but it never felt crowded. On day 2 we realized we had access to the bay side also. If you want something than just the beach the bay side had trail through the marsh was fun to do plus the observation decks let you see across the channel.
4. Last if you forget anything there is a Dollar General just out the entrance.
We had a great time and plan to do it again!”
