Everything you read about the Everest is true.. but more so. This is much more of a component than you might think. Spent a day listening to cables and then ‘for a bit of fun ‘ put in the Everest - took the whole musical experience to a new level - More definition, soundstage both width and depth and way more natural. Don’t listen to one because you will want one. I had to buy one !

The Sounds of Blackness I consider myself a man of science having a BSc in Computer Science and a paid up member of the clean power brethren. I have been using upgraded power cables for decades and trust my ears, I am well aware of the objectivist school of it makes no measurable difference and do not part with my hard earned money easily. Being based in London I get the opportunity to see live gigs and was fortunate to see Jazanova play Strata Records The Sound of Detroit at the Jazz Cafe. There's the audiophile cliche of the ideal of recreating live music, well unless it's a small acoustic jazz quartet then you are hearing a gig through a club's sound system and the cloth ears of the sound engineer. What the Shunyata Everest does is allow my system to perform at its best reducing the noise floor to a minimum from my very sub-optimal electrical wiring and just as importantly the electronics interacting with each other. My Chord DAVE/Mscaler front end uses switch mode power supplies and are none to be sensitive to RFI. My tube Audio Research VT80SE powering my Vimberg Audio speakers with their ceramic drivers underpinned by REL Carbon Special sub-woofer allow me to recreate the recorded event in pristine clarity with katana sharp transients, wide dynamics and above all musical coherence. I listen to my system for extended periods 4hr+ daily, 8hr+ on weekends and it never gets fatiguing. Like the advert from back in the day, if you want to hear your system at its best; fit the best, fit Everest!

Shunyata Research recommends that the Everest 8000 surge protector/power conditioner/ distributor is used with their Omega XC power cord to obtain optimum performance. This significantly adds to the cost, but there is no sense investing in/using an Everest 8000 with a lesser power cord and experiencing inferior sonic results. This review, therefore, assesses what musical enhancements have been experienced through my hifi system due to the combined use of an Everest 8000 and an Omega XC power cord. If a power conditioner has not been used before within a hifi system, the introduction of this Shunyata duo will doubtless result in an immense sonic gain. The Shunyata approach to removing electronic noise is more complex and completely different from the conventional approach adopted by other manufacturers. It clearly out-performs the brand of conditioner I had previously used. Use of the Shunyata duo has facilitated a deeper ‘drilling down’ into musical performances, providing a greater awareness of individual notes and instruments, with enhanced clarity/resolution of ‘inner’ detail, a rich tapestry of sounds that are often obscured by lead performers within an orchestra/band and/or as vocalists. In addition to the Shunyata duo being able to ‘see’ more deeply into the music and separate out its component parts, it then goes on to ‘stitch them together’ into an organic whole, making recordings sound more life-like within a broadened soundstage, which is very tangible in its realism and outer boundaries. There is generally an enhanced sense of ‘being there’ at the source of a recording, with instruments sounding as if they are being played in front of you. Vocals also have an immediate ‘presence’ and a greater sense of naturalness. The Everest 8000 is a substantial piece of equipment that needs to be located adjacent to rather than within a rack. Its footprint is reasonably compact, primarily due to its vertical elevations. Setting up is quick and straightforward and its benefits are clear from the outset, although it does require a period of ‘running-in’ before full performance is achieved. The Omega XC power cord is extremely thick yet astonishingly flexible, which assists greatly during installation. The quality of construction of the Everest 8000 and Omega XC is second to none with a ‘cost no object’ approach to ensuring use of the finest components and materials.
