Great headphones and a great compliment to the rest of the system Jack has provided.

This is a pair of headphones that I have wanted for a long time and now I finally have a pair. They were so worth the wait as they are stunning. Paired with the Chord Hugo 2 and fed from Tidal on a iPhone is a simply amazing combination. In terms of fit, they are comfortable for long periods, which is great as you will not want to take them off. Overall, really impressive.

focal utopia are one of the very best sounding headphones that you can buy. I have had a number of focal headphones. The utopia are light weight, the most comfortable headphones to wear. You forget that you have them on. I have been up grading different headphone for a couple years to finally get the utopia. You need to have a decent Dac to get the best out of these. They sound awesome through the Hugo 2 Dac. It’s a marriage made in heaven, running them through Hugo Dave Dac. Absolutely stunning.

I've had a few headphones over the years - they've all served their purpose well until the need to move up a notch bites. Before this purchase I was using (and still have) a Beyer Dynamic T1 and A1 amplifier - this combo sounded fine but never had the weight behind it. A move up to an Auralic Taurus mk 2 amp and conversion of the T1 to balanced made for a significant improvement in the sound. Confident that this was the way to go I purchased a pair of Audeze LCD3F. Unfortunately, they never worked for me as I had thought. On some material they sounded great - plenty of weight, slamm, impact but on most recordings they sounded veiled or muffled. This resulted in me cranking up the volume to try and retrieve more detail, but always in vain. For a while I was disillusioned with my headphone setup and was annoyed that I had to choose music to fit the headphones if I was to listen to anything at all. Eventually I decided to try and audition the Focal Elears and the Mr Speakers Ether Flow - and just for a laugh - the Focal Utopia which I had read much about but was definitely not going to purchase. Hence my visit to the Audiobarn. Armed with a selection of music that had sounded both good and bad on the LCD3's I compared the three HP's. They all sounded good and offered a good improvement on the LCD3's but the Focal Utopias just offered a lot more. So much for intending not to purchase them - I took them with the Nordost Heimdall 2 Jack had let me demo them with. I haven't looked back since - these Utopia headphones sounded absolutely superb on any type of music, whether old recordings or new. I did make one change though, I purchased a Mood Audio 430HA headphone amp to replace the Auralic which made further improvements. So now I'm back to enjoying my music again - thanks Jack and Focal Utopia. Equipment: MAC Mini with Uptone Audio DC conversion kit and JS-2 Linear Power Supply; Lampizator Atlantic Plus Balanced; Moon Audio 430HA; Focal Utopia.
