“I must admit that I was a little sceptical when Jack suggested I upgrade from the Tempo to the Imperium. I mean - a motor drive is a motor drive, right? Well....evidently not. This is a tough review to write, as it's difficult to articulate exactly what the Imperium improves on. And I guess the honest answer is "everything". For a start, the milled aluminium shell is industrial design at its best. Even the little metal toggle switches just feel so right, and pride of ownership is high. And then there's the small matter of the improvement to the sound of the record..... The marketing blurb talks about "pure sine and cosine waves" and "minimal noise". I understand the theory, but what's important is what this does to the sound. And this is where the magic happens! Everything just feels more under control; more ordered and calmer, but without losing any punch or excitement. Music that seemed frantic suddenly becomes focused. Complex music becomes more comprehensible. And the absence of noise is incredible. I'd thoroughly recommend trying it out over a few days, and hearing the very real difference it makes to your system. In short, this has been a very worthwhile upgrade and Jack was absolutely right. As if there was ever any doubt....”
