Going for the top-end Power Supply was absolutely the right thing to do, as the audition without PS and then with PS told me all I needed to do. Audiobarn's generosity in loaning me the NDX2 and 555 PS DR to trial undoubtedly helped close the sale.

A few months after it was released, I bought a NAC-N 272 and having listened to demonstrations bought an XPS DR power supply at the same time. This combination, along with a NAP250 DR gave me several years of very happy listening. After reading several forums online extolling the virtues of adding a 555 PS DR to the 272, my curiosity was piqued and I popped in to Audiobarn for a listen. Jack then kindly lent me one for a week of listening in my own room, with my own system. I spent a very happy week playing music with which I was very familiar, and knew the sound of intimately. Whilst not being a sceptic, I was not expecting a huge improvement over the XPS, but I was very surprised at the change in presentation. The whole sound stage seemed to firm up, with instruments being more identifiable in the mix, and yet the whole being more cohesive. Similarly, the bass was not so much extended as now being so much "tighter". If I could summarise the effect of adding the 555 to my particular system, it was to make everything I played more "real" and musical. Not in-your-face, just more authentic with some pieces feeling like you were there with the musicians. The 555 PS DR is not a cheap addition, but to my ears it is worth every penny. Definitely recommended. Oh, and great service from Jack, again.

I spent an afternoon at the Audiobarn demoing both the XPS and the 555PS on the same system as mine at home (NDX2-252-Supercap-300). The 555PS was clearly the better power supply as you would expect with the price difference. What the 555PS has done for my NDX2 is refine the sound in a way that leaves me thinking very familiar tunes have been almost remastered, more depth and clarity making the music much more engaging . I'm very pleased with the 555PS and would highly recommend a demo at the Audiobarn to see what this inconspicuous looking black box can do for your system. By the way, Jack at the Audiobarn is great to deal with and nothing is too much trouble, great place to by HiFi.

It's a really heavy, beautifully finished black box with a power button on it... but BOY does it do wonders! It's necessary in my system (powering my ND555 streamer) but in hindsight I wish I'd bought one sooner to power my lesser Naim source. I imagine it would have transformed it in a similar, but more incremental and practical way.
