“Upon turning 40 I had an itch of the two wheeled variety that I had to scratch so after doing my CBT in September I bought a lovely red 2011 YBR 125cc from a Yamaha main dealer with 9000 miles on it with FSH. I absolutely love it. I commute to work every day (20 miles each way) and my journey which used to take 1 to 1½ hours is now 40 minutes. Filtering is a breeze and economy is amazing - circa 80-90MPG.
Given it is my first bike i have no comparison. Naturally, being a 125cc it is not designed to go 70mph on dual carriage ways, 60MPH is fine though and there are times when a little more power would be great for an overtake but that is not what a 125 is about. It is about learning how to ride - and how not to ride. I am now hungry for more power and intend to do a DAS course in spring with a view to getting a 600cc bike in summer. I have my heart set on a Yamaha MT-07. However, if i do get a bigger bike, it will be with a heavy heart that I part with my trusty YBR 125 that my daughter has affectionately named Ruby.”
“Great little bike, I,m almost 14 stone and have a 39litre top box on it. It cruises at 60mph, will hit 75 on a hill. Best of all? It is hard to get £10 of fuel in it for a clocked 200 miles. Easy to service using a haynes manual. I,ve done over 6,500 miles on mine now, I bought it second hand with 3,600 miles on it, so I,ve replaced both tyres and chain and sprockets. Oil is easy to change, onl g holds a litre so I change it every 1200 miles as when I,m not commuting I tend to let rip, still get well over 90 to the gallon though!”
