This was my first time using a pre-shampoo and I honestly didn’t understand why I had to do this step. I took some time to read about it and I’m using every last drop of this product! This is mainly for buildup— I know it helps with other things too but I have natural 4b hair. I love drenching my coils in creams/butters. I mean, The Rootist shampoo is clarifying enough to cleanse your scalp but I sometimes go weeks without washing my hair. Hence, I’d only use this rinse after wearing braids or extensions. FYI, this product does smell fermented lol. The nozzle also releases a lot of product, so don’t squeeze the bottle too hard.”

I really like the concept of a pre-shampoo product that would clarify my scalp. I liked the scent, the applicator bottle, and how the product was like a thick oil or gel consistency that stayed on my hair pretty well during the 15-20 minute wait. It was very easy to use. After I used it, I actually experienced a lot of flaking afterwards which is opposite of what the product claimed. I actually had to wash my hair again sooner than I expected.”
“As a licensed cosmetologist, I tend to work on all hair textures, however, curly and textured hair is something that I specialize in. And when it comes to protective styles, such as braids or weaves, or anything where the hair is in the same style for quite some time having a scalp clarifier is the most important thing to have when maintaining the health of your hair and scalp. I’ve tried so many different kinds from gels, mouses, shampoo, etc. so I feel like I definitely am a scalp clarifier expert. The first thing I look for in a scalp clarifier is the application method. I really despise pumps because I already am having to do another step before a shampoo, and I really hate having to accurately part my hair in order for me to apply something that has to be dispersed through a pump. Thankfully, this is a needle nose bottle, which does my partings and application all in one step, which is a win-win for me. I absolutely love this type of applicator and really does cut down time. The second thing that I look for in a scalp clarifier are the ingredients and the ones that are the most effective and efficient for my particular scalp are the ones that have some type of AHA formula. This formula has two of my favorite AHA’s, which are glycolic and lactic acids, and, I definitely feel like that makes so much difference when it comes to not having to leave this product on very long and for me it really benefits from a cleanse and refreshed scalp. I do like scalp clarifiers that leaves my scalp, feeling a bit tingly when in use however, this one doesn’t give me that peppermint or refreshing tingle sensation, but it does feel cooling, which is still a welcomed feeling. The third thing I look for in a scalp clarifier is the amount of product needed versus what I receive and this particular bottle in my opinion is a bit small. I have a lot of curly textured hair and in order for me to really get down to my scalp I tend to overuse products like this one in order to fully saturate my scalp because my hair tends to wicked away or pull it away from my scalp before it really truly does its job because my hair is very porous, and it doesn’t allow these products to sit well, or at least for a long time without being absorbed Into my hair. I’ve used this product twice and I’m almost out of product and that’s really unfortunate because it just means that I’ll have to purchase this product quite frequently and when it comes to things of this nature, I tend not to want to invest time and effort on keeping it on hand. I really do love the color choice of this bottle because it makes it easy for me to find in my sea of hair products. I haven’t been able to try it on any of my clients, but the fact that I love it so much for myself i’ts definitely something that I would use if someone were to book me for any maintenance or removal of protective hairstyle services. I would also recommend this product to any client who wants to maintain the health of their scalp and hair themselves because it is very effective and I really like the fact that you don’t need to leave it on for very long and it does the job well no dryness, product residue, dirt or oil left behind. I will definitely purchase this product again however, I think I will use it sparingly and definitely when I need more of a luxury based service for a clients hair service. Lastly I really like how easy the bottle is to squeeze and distribute the product. I really don’t like when the plastic is too hard for you to really apply as much product as you want. It is however a little stiffer than some bottles that I have tried in the past, and maybe be a little difficult for some who may have weaker fingers or hand strength, so that’s just something to consider before you purchase this item. Overall, I would definitely make this one of my staple products. It’s definitely going to be in my loves list because I really do appreciate that It does everything that it says it will and in my opinion even a little more because my scalp feels so relaxed not tight or dry, but just refrresh and clean, which is absolutely wonderful”
“This scalp clarifying hair serum has a nice, almost spearmint, smell and feeling. As you first put it on, it has a cooling effect. I do feel like this helps to get rid of any dander buildup before washing my hair. I’m usually pretty impulsive when I decide to shower so I don’t necessarily have 10 minutes to let it sit in. So all together, I probably let it sit on my scalp for 3 to 5 minutes. I do like the appointed tip and squeeze application bottle. It has a nice squeeze to deposit ratio.”
