The Sherman Filterbank 2 Compact is an amazing box. In Eurorack terms it contains at least half a dozen modules all tightly integrated and cross-modulatable. It lets you smoothly sweep between almost any classic filter type through clever use of just 2 knobs. Internally it only has 3 filter types LP/BP/HP, but these can be combined, routed, and inverted in ways that let you attain peaks, notches, shelves, and anywhere in between. This power comes at a cost of a learning curve. Because it doesn't work like a traditional filter you have to relearn a lot. It's hard to call it "complexity" really, it more makes you just think about things differently. I really like the sounds it creates, but it will take me a lot more quality time to get truly fluent with it. The input gain distortion is incredible. It produces rich harmonics which can be tuned down (or ridiculously enhanced) by the filter itself and really gives later distortion stages something to bite into (if you're into that sort of thing). Taking a very simple signal, even a basic sine wave, and turning into a thick beast of a sound. Odd thing to note: the Filterbank runs off AC power. The wall wart that comes with it outputs AC, not DC. So it cannot be used with the generic DC wall plugs or pedal power supplies that many other effects and synths can.
