Not bad if you like the more earthier flavored sakes

As someone who prefers sake at room temperature, I found this to be terrific, and at this price, it's one of the best I've had. Will definitely be one of my new go-to's that I will order again.

This sake has a lot of sentimental value for me: I was studying abroad in Japan in 2020 and went on a short vacation to Nagasaki, where I stopped at a great charcoal grill restaurant called "炭火串焼 やいとるけん". I hung out there for the entire night and had a great time chatting with locals. Anyway, an older gentleman and his wife were finishing up with their meal next to me and he must have heard me ask the waitress if it was possible to try this particular sake (I was immediately interested since I love Tengu) because he gave me the remaining half of his bottle! We had a very nice chat afterward. It was and still is my favorite sake. I have been looking for this sake for a long time, and am so glad that I can finally get it; it honestly was really cathartic to taste it again after so long, especially since COVID forced me to return from my study abroad to the US 6 months early. I can definitely pick up the mushroom, butterscotch, and walnut notes and love the generally earthy flavor. I recommend drinking it lightly chilled, but then again I drink everything chilled.

Again, have this many times whenever I travel to Japan. Now I could get it here in US!

I call this a サラリーマン (salaryman) sake. It is a straightforward, full body Yamahai 山廃 brew. Not a “sweetie.” Not a grrrr earthy monster like Kamoizumi Shusen which I really enjoy. Terrific with rich foods. Great glass after glass with friends. But this one; it should be in the repertoire.
