“Interesting and tasty when served chilled, with walnuts and umami on the front, a creaminess on the tongue, and a bit of alcohol on the finish. Matches well with beef (as suggested on the card). I’d buy this again, as well as consider visiting the brewery on my next trip to Japan!”
“This is an absolutely stellar sake if you are looking for rich umami and a super-dry finish. While there is a slight flavor of alcohol on the entrance, the umami finish with notes of shitake and walnuts lingers in the mouth for a very long time. It would be great with grilled foods or other richer flavors. Before we tried this sake we weren't entirely sure about the more dry varieties, and our preference leaned toward the sweeter. This bottle showed us what great dry sake is all about and we're looking forward to trying even more!”
Thank you for your detailed tasting review, Robert! We are overjoyed to hear you had a pleasant time with Kagatobi "Ex Dry" and able to really enjoy the great dry sake.
“First I'd like to point out that the Tippsy information card suggested to drink this cold, room temperature or warm, but the bottle itself only recommended room temperature or warm, so I went with room temperature. This sake is definitely quite rich and complex. Perhaps the fact that I drank it at room temperature added even more layers to it, almost "chewy". Good, but not my style.”
Thank you for your feedback! We are sorry to hear that there was little confusion for you. For Kagatobi "Ex Dry", which is under Yamahai category, we would recommend you to warm sake for the best taste. “I’m not well versed in sake yet, so bear that in mind; the Ex Dry is reminiscent of other affordable Junmais, the taste of alcohol is present as opposed to some lighter sakes. However, there are really delicious nutty and rice flavors that peep through, and they come out at room and warm temperatures.”
