This tow-behind attachment connects to Category 1 or 2, 3 Point hitches and includes the Cat 1 lower lift pins. The 3" long spikes create small slits as rolled across your lawn to allow better soil drainage and the infiltration of lawn supplements; perfect for seed germination. The drum comes empty and can fill up to 35 gallons of water to increase the weight for better penetration for your spikes to aerate the lawn. No complaints. Seems to work really well. The plug could be designed better. It leaks without a good sealer. I guess if I had to make one More complaint is if you have tall tires such as turf tires that I do, You can get in a situation depending on the ground undulation, where the drum will not hit the ground. I have extended the top link quite a bit and it can still happen. I have a few swales I’ve made that have grass on them and there are spots where I cannot get the drum to hit the ground without turning around. (See photo example). That said these two minor complaints didn’t lower the rating. I have it 5 stars due to cost, delivery, easy to assemble and normal operation. It’s very easy to install and remove with the stand and the fact that the lower pin connections can be removed.

First off I would like to say that the product does work for the purpose it was designed for. The conditions have to be soft to semi soft to use, even with the water weight, not enough to penetrate hard ground. Fit and finish. Mine arrived to me out of, the cheap and lousy crate it was shipped in and appears to have been dropped out of it during shipping! WIth saying this the product was damaged and missing the 4 bolts, that are used to mount the A frame to the main hitch. As for the drums condition over a half dozen of its spikes were bent over, with evidence it was dropped on concrete. The paint suffered severely! I should have sent it back for a replacement but I didn't, due to covid 19. I did repair all of the damage done to it and finally tried to assemble it. I did read all of the other reviews on the website, and heard about the problems during assembly and mine was the same. The weld on back side of the kick stand mount, that doesn't allow the "A" frame to be bolted on. All I simply did to fix that problem was to unbolt the main frame from the bearings and flip it over and reassembled it. There was no weld on the other side of it. I did need to modify the upper part of the frame to be able to fit it to my John Deere "I" match hitch. I wish a little more care went into the product, I also had a leak in the drum threw a weld. In the end I should have spent a little more money for maybe a better product. Sorry for such a long review.

I was excited to receive this item because there wasn't anything else available that was as close to as big as this. When it arrived, I noticed some of the spikes were bent. This probably happened during the transportation, but I read other reviews with similar issues. Maybe the packaging needs to be redesigned to prevent this if it is a recurring issue. Luckily the spikes bent back pretty easily with very minor deformation. Hooking it up to my tractor was pretty easy (Kubota BX Series). However, when installed, the rear tractor arms did not go low enough for the spikes to fully penetrate the ground. This meant for my current set-up the aerator would have to be pulled. Unfortunately this piece of equipment isn't designed to be towed without modification, so I had to come up with a temporary solution (picture provided). Lastly, when I filled the drum with water there were several leaks by the base of a few of the spikes, and one leak on one of the end welds. I guess they don't leak check these before they ship them out. Again, something else I have heard about from other reviews, JB weld to the rescue. After all that I finally got to operate it and it worked as advertised. Another improvement I would make if I could would be the spike should be more coned shaped instead of dagger shaped. This would still allow for easy penetration, but then would leave a bigger hole (big advantage of core aeration). All in all I am pretty happy with this aerator.

Over all it's good, had two water leaks that have not fixed yet. Wish it would go in ground farther, maybe 5" or 6".
