Tech Note 1: Spindle Bearing and Seal KitQU21280 spindle comes with QA40168 Spindle Bearing and Seal Kit that was the setup used on 1980-1992. If you prefer the 1993-1997 Spindle Bearing and Seal Kit setup, you can order QA40372 separately. See Tech Note 3.
Tech Note 2: Spindle RemovalSpindle removal is best accomplished with a slide hammer and QT1024 Spindle Puller. A 5 pound or larger dead-blow hammer also works well.
Tech Note 3: Spindle SealsThe Spindle Bearing that supports the outer axle shaft is the same for all years, however, Ford used two different types of Spindle Seals. 1980-1992 used an axle shaft slinger, 2 seals, and a thrust washer (see QA40168 and QU40065), 1993-1997 models have a unitized thrust washer/seal and a seal (see QA40372). Since the axle shaft and spindle are the same for all years, you can use a complete set of either type on any year. Personally, I prefer the 1980-1992 setup as I feel it is more durable and effective.
