QU40908 Press on Slip Yoke Seal with Grease Fitting fits Spicer type 1-3/8" driveshaft slip yokes and 1-3/8" 31 spline Dana IFS axle shaft slip yokes designed for press-on type seals. Factory installed grease fitting for easy periodic lubrication. These slip yoke seals replace original parts for many late 1970's to mid 1990's Dana Spicer driveshafts plus 1980-1982 Ford Bronco, F150, F250, or F350 4x4 trucks with Dana 44 or Dana 50 independent front suspension Twin Traction Beam® drive axles. Dan the Gear Man® Tech Notes: Driveshaft Slip Stubs
Spicer Type Driveshafts Commonly Used Install on Slip Yoke First Product Note Matching Parts Applications
Tech Note 1: Driveshaft Slip StubsFor driveshaft slip stubs, QU40618 or QU40908 Seal fits the unsplined portion of splined stubs measuring approximately 1.15" to 1.16". The spline Outside Diameter will be 1-3/8". The spline count can be 15 based on 16, 16, 31 based on 32, or 32.
Tech Note 2: Spicer Type DriveshaftsQU40908 fit Spicer type 1-3/8" spline driveshaft slip yokes made to accept a press on seal. As far as I can remember, the press on seal was first introduced around 1978 for Ford 4x4 front and rear Constant Velocity (CV) driveshafts although it may have been a couple of years earlier.
Tech Note 3: Commonly UsedThe most common use of QU40908 Seal is on rebuilt driveshafts. Chances are, any 1957-1990 light truck or SUV driveshaft with a replacement 1-3/8" slip stub/slip yoke combination installed by a professional shop after 1979 will have a QU40618 or QU40908 Seal. Most driveshafts from vehicles built after this era will never require a new slip stub/yoke combination as they use a slip joint protected by a very effective boot instead of a seal.
Tech Note 4: Install on Slip Yoke FirstInstall QU40908 press-on seal on the slip yoke BEFORE trying to install the Slip Yoke on the splined slip stub.
Tech Note 5: Product NoteQU40908 are a pretty tight press fit on the slip yoke. However, if the slip yoke vent hole is plugged or you pump grease in at a fast rate, it is possible to force the seal off the slip yoke with your grease.
