Stud Size Rotor Runout Matching Parts Applications
Tech Note 1: Safety First For safety reasons, never reuse wheel bolts (studs). New wheel bolts do not cost very much and they are way cheaper than hospital or funeral bills.
Tech Note 2: Stud Size Dana 60 front axles were a heavy duty option on W250 3/4 ton trucks all of which used these 1/2" Wheel Bolts. A Single Rear Wheel W-350 1 ton was also available in most years, however, the wheel bolt used on the 1975-1985 1 ton SRW 4x4 with an 8 Bolt Hub Flange or Hub Lock had 5/8" threads. For the 1986-1989 model years,verify your stud size before ordering, for 5/8" stud, see QU52175. If you have an 86-89 with a 1/2" stud, QU50774 is the part you need. The 1990-1993 W350 SRW truck with the internally splined wheel hub uses QU50774 1/2" Wheel Stud.
Tech Note 3: Rotor Runout It is relatively unusual for a big 4x4 brake rotor to have less than the maximum allowable runout and rotor thickness variation once it is assembled to a wheel hub. This is due to manufacturing tolerances of the parts and the pressures exerted on the hub and rotor when pressing in the wheel studs. After assembling your brake rotor to the new hub, the rotor should be checked for thickness variation (0.001" {0.025 mm} maximum) and runout (0.005" {0.127 mm} maximum with 0.003" or less preferred). A rotor that is out of tolerance should be machined with an on-the-vehicle brake lathe if possible or on an accurate bench type brake lathe.
