Must Remove Power Steering Pump Applications
Tech Note 1: Engine Oil The Dodge Ram trucks that need this Kit will be leaking engine oil between the vacuum pump and power steering pump. On these models, the gear driven vacuum pump is lubricated by engine oil. When the output seal goes out, engine oil will leak out from the area between the vacuum pump and power steering pump. The power steering pump mounts to the vacuum pump housing and it is driven by the vacuum pump output shaft, but the two pumps have completely separate oil supplies. Since there is an open air gap between the seals, there is no way the oil from one pump can contaminate the oil in the other pump
Tech Note 2: Must Remove The vacuum/power steering pump assembly must be removed from the engine to install this Kit. Resealing the vacuum pump is not all that hard, but to help you do the job right the first time, we have TSB50073 four page, color illustrated Tech Service Bulletin with torque specs available as an option. We are no longer manufacturing the simple tools shown in the TSB, but most people have suitable alternatives in their tool box.
Tech Note 3: Power Steering Pump QU50073 does not include seals for your power steering pump. The power steering pump is a conventional General Motors Saginaw pump that is driven by, but not part of the Wabco vacuum pump.
