“I went into the course with some reservations in terms of whether I made right decision. Being a slightly more mature student, I did think I may have been wasting my time. I couldn't have been any further from the truth. I was put into cohort TR18 with Will McKenzie as our tutor, this guy was fantastic! He made the introduction to Electrical Engineering easy and simple to understand. He challenged our class and me personally to learn and developed our skills as best possible. The time at NZMA has helped in preparing me personally for an apprenticeship role. Being able to work on campus was a huge help in gaining the practical experience needed. I would 100% recommend NZMA Trades and the Level 3 Certificate in Electrical Engineering to anyone!”
“The syllabus set out in the course is great in a way for beginners. However the way it can be delivered can be altered in a way that students all have a complete understanding of what is being taught that day. More class interaction and quizzes can be implemented more into the course rather than sit and read through material alone.
Outline for the day, beginning of the day tell class what will be expected to go through each day. Or have a weekly planner - letting students know what subjects are being taught so they can read materials before coming to class? Provided that they get given their materials before hand.
Prior to starting on practical activities, run through maybe some tips or trade tricks and explain why its best to use that technique, rather than have us work on projects, then we either cut too short or cut too long or knock out too much of what we actually need, waste of resources not to mention time. I understand mistakes are made so we learn from it, but just to save time, resources and sanity be best to be told before hand of things to help us.
Forgive me if this may seem too much, and everyone is different, this is how I felt this course lacked in. But everything was good. Tutor was very patient and lenient, calm too which is important, good learning environment.”
