Found it a little hard to understand some of the questions in the work books, some of the spelling in the work books were wrong which made it hard sometimes to understand what was being explained. Overall enjoyed the course

It was great opportunity to gain knowledge like how to care people, culturally safe practice in this diverse country and legislations we should understand. Campus learning with Bianca was great but it was unfortunate that placement were with mixed experience, some had real great environment with real hands on experience while we were not even given enough opportunity of observing or training but send to the client's room without knowing their health issue or condition. We were actually not allowed to transfer residents with equipment, because if something happens, they will get into trouble....which was totally unexpected as it was one of the course requirement. I was given the opportunity of getting the lecture from OT instead. It would be great that more deep communication between school and the facility about the requirement of placemat. For example, What is the expectation of the learning in first week, second week and third week of placement or What kind of opportunity we are expected to be given from placement. I felt I was almost like a free helper during the placement. I did not receive education in there. I just got an opportunity to implement what I learnt and tried my best. I still do not know all I did was good enough or not as nobody observe while I shower, took the client to toilet, help to change pad and so on. While I was in Chrtonleigh, there were 6 nursing students from Whitirea. Their tutor was also there all the time with students, so they got all the priority and be given all the necessary support to finish their requirement. It may be good to use only good enough facilities for placement, make the class into half, tutor come several days a week to communicate well with facility manager, senior HCA and nursing team to make sure that NZMA student will not be misused in their facility. Just to check, observe and good communication will help to prevent us having a terrible free helper experience.
