I got this cartridge as a tie-over while my SoundSmith Zephyr MIMIC* is being rebuilt. It is quite a bit lighter than the SS, but fortunately had some SS headshell screws of different weights to compensate for it. Otherwise, set-up on my VPI SuperPrimeScout was easy. I went with the recommended capacitance (220 setting in EAT eglo petite), but it seems pretty forgiving with various settings. If your phono stage does not have adjustment options, I would not worry too much about it. The sound difference with load settings on the SS are much more pronounced. Sound of the 2M black is pretty neutral, but not as detailed as the SS, and lacks some treble sparkle. That is the difference between a $600 and $2K cartridge. I've had 2M red and 2M blue before on previous TTs, but it's been too long to make comparisons, sorry!

Really nice upgrade from the Grado cartridge my Thorens had. Very quiet, with no discernible surface noise, and fantastic detail and imaging. Hats off to Kat for her sound advice and customer service, as well as a surprise discount.
