Kevin, I had two incidents where the unit went silent. I told Richard O'neill- he asked Manley and they advised that I check the wiring and make sure the tubes were well seated, which I did. After everything checked out, I no longer felt comfortable hanging on to the unit. It cost me $140.00 via Fedex with full insurance to send it back to you. I was hoping Upscale would meet me half way on the return shipping as I believe this is a faulty unit. - Robert

This is exceptional… and not just the phonostage, the customer service is great too! But about the Chinook - its is wonderful. Powered by a Cardas clear reflection power cable, a PS power station powers everything via Cardas parsec power cables, the Manley is sandwiched between an AMG Teatro on VPI Scout 2 LE and a MA352 to Klipsch Cornwall IVs and all tied together with Cardas parsec, this phonostage is phenomenal. It’s quiet and dynamic at the same time and is really more than twice as good as my old MF M6 Vinyl.

This item was delivered to me defective. After a lot of headache trouble shooting I discovered that the problem was in the MC stage of the Chinook. This is the third Manley product that I have purchased over the years. The other two items were not purchased through Upscale. However, out of three Manley items that I have purchased two have arrived defective. Ironically, the other defective item was also a tube preamp. It was a microphone preamp. This leads me to begin to question Manley's quality control. The Chinook was dropped off at Fedex today and should arrive at Upscale Monday by the end of the day. After my previous experience with Manley and this experience. I am not interested in a replacement. I don't know why I should bear the cost of returning it. Manley should bear that cost. But it is not worth my time to argue over it. I already have wasted far too much time trouble shooting the issue. I am happy with Upscale and have no issue with Upscale. In fact, your PrimaLuna support person Steve has been beyond helpful. He is one of the best support people that I have ever encountered. And I have encountered many. If I were returning this just because I didn't like it. I would not have an issue bearing that cost. But to recieve a defective item and have to bear the cost of returning it does not seem right. However, as I said, i just don't have the time to argue over it. But I am not going to purchase Manley products in the future.

As the proud owner of a Manley Steelhead, when I put together a dedicated headphone system, the Manley Chinook was the only choice. Paired with the Pathos InPol Ear, it’s simply, logically, forthrightly amazing…and it’s really quiet! Manley gear, like Pathos, is about quality and performance, not price and hype.
