“After almost returning the Elegias, emitting horrible sound, I soon realized that I had not plugged the cables in as snug as they should have been. Once corrected, the sound was absolutely marvelous, easily surpassing in every way, my former phones. One caveat, noted by many Elegia owners: why oh why did Focal supply such ridiculously short cables?? The Elegias deserve better.”

“These headphones attain the closest to the airy top end and spacial presence I am going after. Given the close-out price I paid, they are a 5-star. These blow my Sennheiser 660's out of the water. Those are a disappointment. I needed closed-back headphones to use on airplanes so I chose these but actually, these will be used for daily home use too.”

“Sound fantastic and solid, quality Focal build. As with anything Focal makes, even the packaging exudes top shelf consideration. Considering the price: these are a no-brainer! Upscale had the best price going for them as well. Post purchase communication, packing and expedited shipping were excellent. Upscale is always on my short list when comparing / picking up Gear. “Rating 4 not because of dissatisfaction, but because costlier Focals do sound better. These are going out of production, so grab 'em while you can. BUT KNOW WHAT THEY'RE FOR. They've sometimes been criticized as if they were meant to be all-purpose headphones, But that's not what they are. With closed backs and short cables, they were obviously meant to join a quality portable system such as Chord Mojo/Poly or A&K. For this use, they're outstanding. In the midrange, they sound much like my Utopias. The compromises you might hear make sense for closed-backs at this price-point. At less than $700, they're a really good deal.”
