“So I'll get the obvious out of the way-Upscale needs to indicate in their description that this thing does not include a power cord. I'm fine if I need to buy one but I need to know that upfront. This was incredibly annoying as I would have bought one with the unit if I had known I needed to. WTAF!?!?! Now that that's out of the way. This is a well built, substantial unit. It looks great and even out of the box it sounds very good. It is tall though so it required me to rearrange some things. But other than that it sounds very good right out the box. I like the bonus tubes, very cool and thanks for that. And I like that I can tune the headphone impedence so that I can use whatever cans I want. Since this is a gift that is really important. The sound is on the neutral side of tubey. It is not warm, but I would not call it clinical either. It's just in the middle. I love that it has the beans to run a high efficiency system, so cans and boxes work just fine. There are some things I don't like-the cord thing which I already covered. The tube shield, the screws face the tubes requiring a very small philips head screwdriver to access so that you can install the glass shield. Again, WTAF?!?!?! Unnecessarily fiddley people! Don't do things that distract from the goodness.... That said, this is the one to start with. I really like the sound and setup and power and this has great features to let you run whatever you want in terms of cans. And the price is fantastic! Worth every penny. One star off for no cord and not telling people in the product discription.”
