A great recommendation from Kat. A very musical and balanced sound. A huge upgrade from a more expensive Ortofon Black.

fabulous cartridge. as good a $1200 investment as I have found. I know you can spend more but why bother? I've got five figures in my system and would need to spend 2x on each of my current components before I would consider a more expensive cartridge. I love my analog setup so now I can spend my money on feeding my vinyl addiction

I replaced my Denon 103R with the Hana ML cartridge. It provided a significant improvement across the frequency range, especially in the mid-range. One thing I'd point out is that the Hana is a physically heavy cartridge. Before purchasing one, be sure that your tonearm counterweight can balance this cartridge. Mine could not. I had to tape 2 steel washers on the back of my counterweight to set the vertical tracking force. Pretty ugly look.

There was a significant improvement when I replaced my Denon 103R with the Hana ML cartridge. One point that should be made, the Hana is a very heavy cartridge. Be sure that the counterweight of your tonearm will balance a cartridge this heavy. I wasn't aware of this when I bought the Hana. I had to tape 2 steel washers on the back of my counterweight to balance the arm. It's ugly but it was the only way to install the cartridge on my JVC QL-5 turntable.

The ML cartridge replaced a 8 year old Transfiguration Spirit III which sold for 2x the price of the ML back in the day. The turntable, tonearm, phono stage and MC loading were the same. Replacing the Spirit with the ML, there was greater dynamics/deeper base. The soundstage had greater depth and width. This thing is a fantastic value! I am glad Jean Paul steered me toward the ML rather than the Ortofon Cadenza Bronze. Its makes me wonder how much better the Hana Umami is!

UPSCALES cartridge of the year may be ‘Kiseki Purple Heart N.S.’. But for my money, ‘Hanas’ M Series MC’ cartridge,” fits the bill”. Open, airy, and clear. I’d been less than enthusiastic with my POLK RTi A7’s for years , but the Hana M series MC phono cartridge w/Sutherland KC Vibe Mk2 and my beautiful MARANTZ TT; Made those POLK,s “COME ALIVE”. My records and stereo system never sounded sooo good. Even my 60’s stereophonic records sound great! Kevin, on a personal note: Give My Thanks to all the folks at ‘ UPSCALE AUDIO’ for all their help this past year. Year 2021 is already starting off on a great (musical) note.

This is by far the most expensive cartridge I've ever owned. I've only recently gone back to listening to vinyl since going digital in the late 80's. I was still clinging onto my beloved Shure V15 Type IV, and recently replaced it with a new JICO stylus. I was able to audition a Hana SL from a friend and it blew away my Shure cartridge in performance. It gave me the confidence that the ML must be better than the SL, so I took the plunge and went for the ML without listening to it first. I can't say it is much better than the SL, not like how the SL improved on the Shure. But I'm definitely very happy with this cartridge. It has a lot of mid and high end detail with solid bass. I paired this with a Vincent PHO 701 phono stage, and has a nice warm tone overall. Highly recommended.
