This tube works great as the first stage in my Octave 80SE. Clear yet warm, with a lot of richness across the spectrum. highly recommended.

Put these in my Pro-Ject DS RIAA preamp box to knock down the amplification a bit more than the 12AU7s I had in before (the DS comes stock with 12AX7). They did lower the amplification (output volume dropped) but the top end became harsh, grainy, nearly unlistenable. I gave them several hours to "break in", although Upscale does its own break in before shipping. Made no difference. These may sound great in other gear, but I pulled them out of my gear. YMMV

Thanks for your review, John! We burn-in power tubes for 72 hours and test while hot, so that we get more reliable results, and can also weed out early failures. However, preamp tubes don't need this process, so we still strongly recommend not critically evaluating your tubes until you've got 100 hours of playing time on them. Most definitely get at least 24 hours of PLAYING time before moving on!

Yes, it's true. This tube makes your McIntosh MHA200 sound WAY better. Like not even comparable to the stock McIntosh tubes. If you felt you lost your low end and soundstage, these tubes not only bring them back, they double or even perhaps triple the perceived price you'd pay for an amp that sounds like this. This is no joke. These tube's sound have everything I love about a tube amp mixed with the detailed insanity of a solid state amp. Perfect - absolutely perfect.

I am using this tube in the preamp section of my Mesa Boogie Hybrid bass amp, a WD-800. The 12AT7 is commonly used as pre-amp tubes in bass amps due to it's more linear nature. The stock tube is a new production Tung-Sol 12AT7. It's a good tube, but as the designer of this amp said, they choose the tubes that produce the best yield per 1000, have a low number of returns, and sound good. It's a reasonable criteria for a manufacturer, but leaves room for improvement. Before I purchased the Mullard, I tried other 12AT and 12AYs I had around, such as a Gold Lion AU. I also tried a NOS Jan AY. These were all very good tubes, and those who are not chasing "the tone" would be happy with any one of them. For me, this Mullard tube is a solid choose for this applications. The overall tone is surprisingly balanced and clear. The lows are deep and tight. The mids are very clear and present with lots of depth and texture. The highs seem to have a gentle roll-off that makes them sound a little soft when compared to the Tung-Sol, which I think is brittle on the top-end. The tube does not seem to breakup as easily as others I've tried. I would say it does the somewhat compressed, slightly growly thing very well. This could very well be due to the amp design, and not the tube. But if you are looking for some grindy bass, you may want to look elsewhere.

These tubes sound smooth and detailed in my McIntosh MC275 amp. Nice upgrade to the NOS JAN Philips 12AT7 tubes I’ve enjoyed for years. I’m glad a bought an extra four of the Mullards!

The NOS Mullard CV4024s arrived this morning and I immediately installed them in the driver sockets of my Jolida Fusion 3502S. With EH7025 preamp tubes and JJ6CA7 power tubes, the combination is outstanding! I had JJ EEC81s in there before, a good driver tube, but not even in the same league as the NOS Mullard CV4024s. Amazing that a tube from 1984 can sound so good. The soundstage and 3D were already outstanding to start but now they're off the charts.
