The NR1200 is my re-entry into Hi-Fi/Home theater. I had simplified to a sound bar for the past 5 years. Being given some fantastic sounding Spica TC-50 speakers from the 80s (with a 4 ohm rating) and having a bevy of HDMI sources, the NR1200 is definitely the perfect last puzzle piece for a minimal Hi-Fi home entertainment system (which is what I wanted to achieve). The Marantz sound is something that I'm getting used to but am very much enjoying. To borrow the words of a YouTube reviewer the sound is polite at lower volumes but I've noticed that when pushed the sound opens up to intimate warmness. Very much a quality product that solves a lot of logistical problems in a simple system. I love the expandability of the NR1200. If I want to add an external amp, it has pre-outs. If I want to use an external DAC, no problem. ARC and 5 HDMI inputs? Truly a multi-function tool. My highest recommendation.

If you are making the transition to a more modern A/V receiver setup, or upgrading to a more serious setup for home audio, I recommend this receiver. My home system was inherited from my father. It was originally multi channel system with a pair of original ESS AMT speakers doing the heavy lifting. I don't have room in my apartment for a multi channel setup, but I knew a hi-fi two channel system with my speakers would give everything I need. This Amp powers my speakers perfectly. If you attach it to your television it can walk you through its own set up if you are new to doing that. It has enough inputs for my legacy components (Laserdisc player), plenty of hdmi in for Roku and others so there is only one cord going to your TV. The built-in phono pre Amp is great for an av receiver (I've heard better from older stereo systems, but this is a modern receiver that's already doing a lot. If that's a concern you should buy a pre Amp). It has a built-in app that allows you to play TIDAL and other streaming services directly through the receiver through the HEOS app, but I prefer the audio response of using my computer as a media server to play TIDAL. The interface on the app is also a little clunky. Bluetooth pairing is easy, I just hit the button on the remote and it's near instantly connected to my phone and playing what's on it. It looks great in the stack (on top). And through the app you can custom label the inputs (says Roku, Laserdisc on the display). All and all this is a great receiver for a great price, they really focused on giving you the most you can get for the money. Including a "pure direct" mode that shuts down any part of the Amp that does not have to do with playing your music to give it to you as pure as possible. This unit also comes in a multi-channel which I have to believe is at the same level of quality.

This is exactly the AV receiver I've been looking for since deciding to move to a more simple 2.1 arrangement. Setup was a breeze and it fits into our living room AV furniture with room to spare. I currently have it coupled with some homemade bookshelf speakers and Klipsch Sub. The sensitivity of these are a little lower than my previous Klipsch references, but the quality when pared with the Marantz far exceeds the old configuration
