“I really enjoy my PrimaLuna EVO 400 preamp. I’m using it with a McIntosh MC275 amp driving KEF LS50 Meta speakers. The sound is warm with smooth highs and excellent imaging in three dimensions. I’m really impressed by how quiet the EVO 400 is. I suspect the quiet background greatly contributes to the imaging. The EVO 400 replaced a McIntosh solid state preamp that I liked for its transparency. But I greatly prefer the EVO 400. The EVO 400 has better imaging and gives instruments a more realistic tone, from classical piano to distorted rock guitars. I’m very happy with my purchase!”

“The positives: gorgeous aesthetic, wonderful build quality, great remote and ergonomics (apart from not being able to see the volume setting from a distance). Incredibly quiet, black background. No hiss whatsoever. Instruments appear in their own space with the most beguiling midrange timbre. The negatives: Lacks bass control (bass lacks punch, drive and articulation) and treble is very rolled off (for example a jazz trumpet sounds more wooden than brass). It breaks my heart. :(”
