“Replaced the stock rectifiers in my PrimaLuna 3 preamp not expecting a significant change. I was pretty happy with the sound but began to worry that the stock tubes were acting up, a lot of flashing on start up. The sound with the stock tubes was very good with the preamp paired with a Bryston 4bst and Martin Logan EST as the heart of my system. A very detailed decent sized sound stage. With the phillips tubes the bass already nice was more realistic in weight and tone the lower midrange tighter and the sound stage wider and deeper. More than supprised at the difference these tubes made.”

“These tubes are a nice addition to my Primaluna Dialogue 3. They sound very nice, and look great too. Imaging seems to be more precise now, which was a welcome surprise. At my wife's suggestion, I bought a spare pair for the future. What a girl! Don't alarmed when you plug them in and don't see any tube glow, you have to view these tubes from the top to see any.”

“Overall system synergy will be a factor with this tube (as always). Used in a Decware CSP+ with HD800 headphones, overall detail was excellent w/great top-end sparkle. However, the soundstage was smaller than my RCA 5U4G as well as a comparatively lean bass response... not quite what this rig needs. But it might be perfect in your system.”

“Put 2 of these in my primaluna cd-8 but did not expect much difference. Well I was wrong these are much better then my Mullard 5ar4's. A tad more definition, dynamics, 3D and increased sound stage. I should know by now if Kevin tells you something you can take it to the bank.”

“I conducted a Rectifier shoot-out of various 5R4 rectifiers such as the common RCA 5R4GY and the lengendary Brimar 5R4GY. This is a very good rectifier tube which adds midrange warmth to the sonics of your tube amp. Both the Top-end and the bottom-end are extended and well controlled. Highly recommended. “Installed in my Primaluna PL3 & PL8 resulting in a life like realism in the tonal quality of all instruments and voices to a degree that exceeded (way beyond) any expectations I might have had. Better balance and definition of instruments. Bass has well defined leading and trailing edges, with beautiful tone. Revealed Inner detail that IMO was already exceptional. Based on my experience, it is a reasonable hypothesis that these rectifier tubes will complement the music your system produces with life like realism. The upgrade to Telefunkin 12AX7 Smooth Plates and (RTs)Radio Techniques 12AU7's were the icing, the Philips 5R4GYs's are the cherry.”
