My decision to purchase a phono preamp came after a search on the web to see how well-regarded vintage phono stages, namely the Yamaha C-80 and Denon PRA-1000, would compare (initially) the Vincent PHO-8 . I found no such comparison on the web, so I decided to make the minimal investment in the PHO-8 and find out for myself. The PHO-8 was cleary better at bringing out the subtleties of vinyl. The PHO-701 was the next logical step. The tube is still breaking in, but so far I love what I hear. And the ability to record my vinyl to digital is a big plus.

I was excited to finally receive this phono pre amp and had heard a number of great reviews on it. Once I had setup and customized the to my cartridge/stylus, it made an instant impact in the sound quality of my turntable. Now that the tubes have had more of a break in period, the phono stage has added a welcome degree of warmth to the sound. Very happy but wished it hadn't taken so long to arrive...Over all, worth the wait.

Better sound than what was built into my McIntosh C2500 tube preamp, right out of the box. Larger, more dimensional soundstage, improved dynamic range. Can’t wait to actually break it in!

This is just a quick add on to previous impression. Tried a Telefunken ribbed plate 12AU7 and like that a bit better than the Brimar 12AU7. It is a bit more airy in the top and not as thumpy in the bass. Difference is rather subtle. Cost is about the same between those two tubes. Just a heads up for those of you interested in tube rolling. I listen to the TT either via Woo WA6SE with WE422 and 13EM7 tubes, and new Dan Clark Ether 2 planar headphones, or via integrated amp (Rotel RA1572) to B&W CM6s with paradigm sub.

I’m not really sure if it works at all. Either it or something else. Is causing an extreme buzzing sound. When hooked up with several different turntables.
