Very impressed with this speaker. Cannot quite understand why Kevin Deal is now critical of Tannoy. I remember that Tannoy Autograph Mini review which began with a baby (named Tannoy!) spitting up on his shirt. THAT review was positively glowing. Funny - this video is apparently no longer available on You Tube. Comment?

Well, these are amazingly revealing speakers. I play vinyl. Even the slightest change in VTA will be noted in the Mini's output, especially on the high range. Of course, bass is limited and these need to be integrated with at least 1 sub to fill out the sound spectrum. And soundstaging was unexpectedly very good! There really is something about the concentric design. As to cost, yes it seems expensive for a 4 1/2' driver. But, that initial pain is forgotten once you hear these. Build quality seems very high. And, even though we audiophiles are seeking great sound from a speaker (check) the woodwork is also beautifully done (check). Heirloom quality. At Richard's suggestion, I'm glad I took a chance on these. Keepers.

What other reviewers say it is... it is. However, you have to let them play for at least a month and in that time the sound stage will be slightly low and the upper mid's will be shouty. Don't let it throw you; after that it's like butter. I found the best setup is on 24-inch stands, toed in facing you, five feet away and five feet apart. I hear no difference grills on or off. Setting them further back slightly loses imaging. The manual says they're for near-field listening. I set these up in my main 30x16 listening room to use with my tube amps and CAT preamp for late night listening. More than loud enough for classical and jazz. Being 8-feet from the back wall and 5 feet from the sidewalls, the image fills the entire width and depth. Very impressive. The amplifiers I use are my home made tube amps (3-watt 2A3 SE and 60-watt KT150 PP triode/ultralinear). Perfect fit.

I have had these for about three months. Love them. I bought them for my wife. She is putting them in the living room. These are the only speakers that she approved and she insists that the grills stay off.

Used it as a near-field setup in my bedroom as I am not used to wear headphones for long hours. I can sit less than 2 feet away from the speaker and it sounds fantastic even at low level without "loundness" on in my Yamaha int amp. The CD player, the volume knob of int amp, the toe in of speakers are all within my arm's reach and I do not need to get up from the chair. To me, this is perfect for music listening in a small room at late hours. You don't need headphone on your head and the volume won't be too loud to wake up other people in the other rooms. The vocal is sweat and stand out the most. For such small size of speaker, lack of extreme bottom end is an advantage for late night listening. Paired with an int amp with good low volume performance, then I am happy to enjoy this "mini" speaker. Upscale Audio people are also very nice to work with and provided me useful information, thanks!

I partnered these with a 1998 Paradigm 12 in powered sub and set the cut off at 70. Simply amazing near field experience. I’m blown away! I set them on really good speaker stands filled with shot. These rivaled and bettered in mid range my LS 50. Build quality and appearance allows me to eventually place them in my wife’s living room. I’m hooked and looking at buying the larger Tannoy for my main listening room. First I have to sell my Tekton Perfect SET
