About 6 months back I explained to Pete the trials I'd had trying to find a replacement for my old Revel F30 studio monitors. He said 2 words Tannoy Arden. Well the Arden's had been on back order for 9 months at that time, so I opted for the next size down, the Cheviot. All I can say "It's a wonderful speaker" The detail is outstanding without being in your face. I have a very ugly listening room that is hard to fill, but these do a fantastic job. And they keep getting better as they break in I've got about a 1000 hrs on them now, but I don't think they will take another 2yrs to fully brake them in. And they are so easy to drive, you don't need 200wpc to feed them. My Primaluna Dialogue Premium HP with any tube from EL34 to the current KT150's has more than enough power to make them sing. What I really like about the Cheviot is that even at low levels they are very dynamic. My only con on the list was that the bass wasn't as deep as the Revel's (but no other speaker I demoed had that kind of bass either) but an old REL R series took care of that.

These speakers rock. My system has never sounded so good. Jazz, classical, soft rock, I am hearing things on my albums and CDs that I have never heard before. What they say about Tannoy is true. I have fallen in love with my system again. They are very easy to place and there is no listening fatigue with them. My Primaluna Prologue One amp easily powers them with room to spare. Thanks to Richard for all of his help and advice. I have been buying from Upscale for 16 years. They are always a pleasure to work with and I highly recommend them.

I love these speakers. What else can I say? They sound great with my Primaluna EVO 100. Rock, jazz, folk, country, soul, R&B, funk, electronic, metal, blues.......they do all that shit! Upscale Audio makes it easy. If you're thinking about it and want something that does it all well look no further

Coherent sound! With tower speakers I could hear each driver, bass on the bottom, piccolo at the top. With these everything is together, much closer to the real thing. My spouse says it is like having the musicians in the room. String bass (my instrument) is fully portrayed and palpable. Voices seem nearly 3D. The most microscopic details are easily discerned while powerful passages can envelop and immerse you in the sound. They are happy not far from the wall and not at all persnickety about placement. Happily married to a tube amplifier. I strongly suggest bi-wire as the included jumpers are not as completely transparent as very good speaker cable. Addendum July 2022: Sounds better on 4 ohm tap PrimaLuna EVO 300 Integrated. Clearer and tighter.

I took a chance on Kev.. Love my Cheviots, thanks, Kev. I spent bookoo $$ chasing 3-way towers and they were all disjointed, difficult to position. I have a difficult room and the Cheviots are crazy-easy to position. One foot from the wall and they sound incredible. Front ported. Tunable treble. Crazy dynamics and realism. No Head-in-a-vice effect, they FILL the room. No disjointed 3-way tower bullshit. Best soundstage and all the resolution I need. (REL sub is a nice addition.) Use the grounding post and your whole system will "disappear" into blackness. Don't chase resolution in your speaker, chase dynamics and dispersion. With Cheviots, your chase is over. (PS: I have PS Audio electronics -- DS DAC with Bridge II streamer/player, CD Player, BHK Preamp, BHK 250 Amp. Who needs a turntable? Not me, I stream Roon/Qobuz and its crazy-good. DSD files are the best. Aren't you just tired of always telling your friends to "sit here to get the best sound"? Put the Cheviots on the good isoAcoustic feet, tilt them back 4 degrees and fill the whole room. Your friends will smile. Your wife will smile. Play the 2020 remaster of "Giant Steps" and you are sitting in the studio. (Just imagine, Giant Steps and Kind of Blue were recorded within 3 weeks of each other.) Yes, Dual Concentric -- After 94 years, Tannoy might be on to something. :-) Quick diversion: And if you want a great desktop powered monitor, the best value in audio is the Tannoy Gold 7. You have to spend twice the $$ in ANY other brand -- Yamaha HS?, Neumann, Genelec, Focal, etc. -- to match the sound. I tried them all. Put the Gold 7's up on isoAcoustic stands, get a good DAC/Preamp (like the PS Audio Stellar Gain Cell). Add Sennhieser HD-600s and you are DONE. You may never leave your desktop.... Except to listen to your Cheviots.

These speakers are exactly what I was hoping they would be. My set up includes a pair of vintage heath kit W-7M mono tube amps with EL- 34 tubes and I use my Yamaha RX-2080 as my pre amp when using these speakers. Hands above my Klipsch heresy III’s. The klipsch needed subs to fill them out where these tannoys are perfect by themselves. I love the sound signature of Klipsch Heritage but Tannoy has taken a giant leap beyond my loved heresy’s. Everyone talks about the mids with these speakers and that is no lie. They sound as true to live sounding vocalist that I have heard out of a stereo set up. Others my have much nicer gear then I but these speakers with what I have pushing them are it for me. So happy with them. I don’t give a .... that they were what they cost because it’s worth it. If you like the concentric driver then don’t even bother with KEF. I own some R series gear and they have an almost tin sound to them in comparison. As for looks, vintage as hell. You better like The vintage look. I love the look and don’t bother with the grills. I want to see what $6500 sounds like as well.
